Ziggy \'looking for a nice Jewish girl\' - interview
Quote:
Ziggy wants a Jewish girl
By Lauren Krotosky - Thursday 29th November 2007
Ziggy Lichman may have focused his attentions on Chanelle Hayes during a much-publicised romance in the Big Brother House, but the now single former popstar told TJ that he’d like to find a nice Jewish girl.
And any potential suitors need only wait a little over a week for an ideal opportunity to meet the 26-year-old, who will be compering Light My Fire, a Chanukah musical event headlined by platinum-selling artist Lucie Silvas.
Former member of boyband Northern Line and Maccabi footballer Lichman, who lives in Queen’s Park, explained why it was so important to be a part of the event. “My parents always brought me up to be involved with charities,” he said “and I am now in a position when I am listened to more than before. People may mock Big Brother but they are more interested in what I have to say now. This is the first time that I have compèred this sort of event before and I am also presenting the Clothes Show in Birmingham on the same day – a busy time!”
But despite his hectic schedule, the Hendon Reform Synagogue member would still find time for a new lady in his life, saying: “I am looking for a nice Jewish girl to go out with. I am single now, so am going to spend a bit of time enjoying myself but would then like to meet a nice, calm Jewish girl.” And despite famously confusing the Menorah and Mezuzah as he explained elements of Judaism to his housemates on Big Brother, he said he would be spending Chanukah with his family at home. “We are all older now and have left home, so it is quite rare when everyone gets together,” he said.
But anyone interested in spending future festivals with Lichman would have to be willing to cope with his high profile, as he said he didn’t rule out future television appearances. “I do get stopped in the street, but everyone has been very nice,” he mused. “I haven’t had anything that bad, I suppose. I haven’t done anything hugely wrong. Would I ever consider appearing on another reality TV show? Well I never say never”.
Light My Fire, on 9 December at the Soho Revue Bar, is designed to raise awareness of Jeneration, a new initiative backed by The Movement for Reform Judaism which aims to bring together young Jewish adults and offer them ways to engage with Jewish life on their own terms. As well as Silvas, it will featureperformances from Daniel Hart, Lauren Rich, Ryan Scott and Rocket.
