Burton Race restaurant up for sale
Quote:
Burton Race restaurant up for sale TV chef John Burton Race's closed-down Michelin-star restaurant is being put up for sale by business administrators.
The high-profile New Angel in Devon is going on the market together with the upmarket six-bedroom Angel Rooms bed-and-breakfast.
The New Angel restaurant, bought by John three years ago for £500,000, has total debts of more than £1.1 million, said independent business rescue, recovery and restructuring specialist Begbies Traynor, which has been called in to act as administrator.
John, 50, and his 42-year-old estranged wife Kim - the directors of the business - agreed to the appointment of administrators.
Ian Walker of Begbies Traynor's office in Exeter, Devon, said: "It does not look as if there is any prospect of the restaurant re-opening under current ownership so our focus is on obtaining the best possible value for creditors from sale of the business and assets.
Mrs Burton Race closed the restaurant at the end of November - with the loss of 20 jobs - while her estranged husband was in the Australian jungle taking part in TV reality show I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!.
While he was in Australia a notice appeared in the window saying: "It is with deep regret that the New Angel restaurant and rooms will cease trading."
After his return from the jungle, John went back to the home he shares with partner Suzi Ward, 40, and their two-year-old son.
In March the chef left his wife and their six children.
