Kylie's X Factor outfit

There was laughter and tears at the X Factor final - over Kylie's outfit.

What WAS she wearing?! Don't get me wrong, it was during her duet with Leon that I started voting frantically for him.

But that outfit? Whitney dressed as Britney (that's pre-train-wreck Britney, obviously).

I suppose Kylie was providing a service to all women who think they could get away with wearing anything if they had a perfect figure.

The knickers bit was so high cut, it made even Kylie's tiny thighs look like Fatima Whitbread's. I guess that's not the look she was going for.

Kylie is literally the same age as Leon's mum. She's a respected performer who hardly needs to shock.

Borrowing Cher's outfit from the video for If I Could Turn Back Time was just too much.

If the aim of the lace body-suit was to make Kylie seem young, it backfired spectacularly, giving more the impression of a senile granny who had forgotten to put her skirt on.

She may be the princess of pop but Kylie Minogue seemed to hit a sartorial bum-note on the final of X Factor.

The pint-sized singer, who positively wowed the crowds with a lounge-style version of Better the Devil You Know, appeared wearing a lace all-in-one under a black corset.

But according to the Mirror's Polly Hudson, her homage to Cher's Turn back Time video provoked both tears and laughter from viewers.

"The knickers bit was so high-cut, it made even Kylie's tiny thighs look like Fatima Whitbread's," she wrote. "She's a respected performer who hardly needs to shock."

The Australian singer performed a duet with Leon Jackson, who went on to win the contest.

And although he held his own vocally, Kylie outshone him when it came to an onstage outfit - her get-up may have seemed to many at odds with Leon's casual, Michael Buble-esque suit.

Ms Hudson also wrote that Kylie looked like "a senile granny who had forgotten to put her skirt on".

However, fellow X Factor guest Katherine Jenkins proved to be a knock-out with her rendition of You Raise Me Up.

She appeared in a beautiful black gown during the duet with runner-up Rhydian Roberts.
