POP star LILY ALLEN is all smiles after discovering she is pregnant with her first child, The Sun can reveal.

The 22-year-old singer found she was expecting last month, but has only revealed the news to close family.

She and CHEMICAL BROTHER boyfriend ED SIMONS, 37, are delighted.

A source close to the singer said: “Lily is thrilled to be pregnant and can’t wait to become a mum. She’s a real family person.

“Ed’s very happy. He is really looking after her.”

The Smile singer has been dating Ed - who is 15 years her senior - since September.

They now plan to set up home together.

Lily, whose debut album Alright, Still was the huge hit of last summer, has made no secret of her desire to start a family.

Our source said: “Lily could not be happier.

“It’s the icing on the cake for what has been an incredible 18 months for her. She is looking forward to finishing her new album early next year and releasing it before the birth of her first child.”

Lily - daughter of actor KEITH ALLEN - is expected to follow in the footsteps of CHARLOTTE CHURCH and branch out into TV in between releasing albums.

BBC3 has signed her to front her own TV show Lily Allen and Friends. She is also joining comic RUSSELL BRAND for a spoof cinema version of classic novel Pride and Prejudice.

Pop star Lily Allen has announced she is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Ed Simons.
A spokesman for the pair said they were "obviously both thrilled by the news" but would be making no further comment.

Allen, 22, has been dating Simons, 37 - one half of electronic dance duo the Chemical Brothers - since September.

The singer, whose father is actor Keith Allen, will release her second album - a follow-up to 2006's Alright, Still - in 2008 as planned, her spokesman said.

"As the pregnancy is at a very, very early stage, the couple ask that you respect their privacy, as the health of Lily and their child is their paramount concern," he added.

Last month the London-born performer revealed she had been diagnosed with a heart murmur earlier in the year.

Allen's happy news followed Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman's announcement she is expecting a baby herself with her partner, Editors singer Tom Smith.

The 32-year-old Scot described the news as "the best Christmas present we could have wished for". "We are both absolutely delighted," they added.


"To say our parents are excited is an understatement," she said.

Bowman's spokesman said the baby was due in June 2008 and that she planned to continue with her work commitments "for the foreseeable future".

Smith, he added, would "complete his current worldwide tour with Editors".

Bowman - who presents Radio 1's afternoon show - began dating the English musician in 2005.

A former presenter on MTV, she began her Radio 1 career in 2003 in partnership with Colin Murray.
