Janet Street Porter Memo
I am doing the show because it’s a brilliant idea. I only do TV things that I haven’t done before, and I haven’t been on Big Brother before. I wish I’d thought of it first like all good ideas!
I’ve already been in the booth and have been quite an aggressive and bossy Big Brother but they have responded very very well. I am really enjoying it.
I intend to have a lot of fun but not be spiteful or malicious. Because the thing is this is a clever bunch of people and I would feel uncomfortable at home watching someone like me take the p**s out of them too much because I think they are really smart. I mean they are all clever in their different ways. I’ve already done one task with them, the debate, and they have all taken it really seriously and worked really hard at it. It’s impressive.
I would say it’s not immediately obvious what the housemates special talents are. I think they make for good television because they all come from different backgrounds and they’ve all got different interests. Obviously they all like the same kind of music and same kind of movies and whatever but they are a pretty interesting bunch of people. A pretty good cross section I would say.
I have taken part in reality shows, but I am also speaking as someone who comes from a background of being a very, very experienced producer and writer of TV formats, so when I take part in something I know all the pitfalls and know why I am doing it but a lot of people have taken part in reality shows without realising what impact it will have on their lives and how other people will react when they come out of it.
What kind of lasting impression would I like to have on the housemates? I’d like to leave them thinking I was a laugh, that I wasn’t a moaning old bag and they had a good time working with me.
Let’s see
Janet
