Spanish Farmhouse Is TV Show's Prize

By Sherna Noah, Showbusiness Correspondent, PA News

Seven couples are battling it out to win a Spanish farmhouse in a new reality TV show.

The 14 have been plucked from across the country for the ITV1 programme.

They were flown out to the rundown Spanish farmhouse near Alicante in February.

They have 15 weeks and a budget of £60,000 to complete the project, but can be forced to leave early if voted out by the other couples.

Since arriving in southern Spain tensions have been brewing between the contestants.

First the couples were greeted by the coldest winter in 20 years, with temperatures of ?10C.

Despite the weather, they have attempted to get the farmhouse up and running and have begun installing heating, lighting and a toilet.

All the couples share the same vision of turning the farm into a B&B but with no beds, some contestants are sleeping on the floor while others are spending the nights in tents.

The atmosphere between the couples has got heated as they battle to ensure they are not voted out by their competitors.

By June only two couples will remain, and the public will decide who is handed the keys to the farmhouse.

A spokesman for Trouble in Paradise producers Endemol, which also made Big Brother, said: ?The couples are set a shared budget, which has to fully cover both the renovation and all their living expenses.

?Trouble in paradise is inevitable as the weeks go by and the work progresses.

?Tensions are sure to mount as the competing couples are made to vote each out until two eventually remain.?

The couples taking part in Trouble in Paradise are:

Dave Collins, 36, a building service engineer and ex-plumber and Cath Knock, 29, a marketing manager, from South London.

They are bored with their jobs, want to escape the London rat race and run a retreat for professionals with cooking, painting and yoga courses.

Andrew Delderfield, 28, a technical co-ordinator and Emma Delderfield, 29, a customer services representative, who speaks fluent Spanish and has already lived in Spain.

The recently married couple, from Bristol, are disillusioned with UK property prices as they cannot afford to buy a property.

Even if they don?t win the show the couple say they will go to Spain.

Mind reader and magician Danny Davis, 47 and Maxine Santanna, 34, a professional entertainer and singer, who tour the country as a double act.

The couple, who have been married for 12 years and are from Sheffield, want to open a B&B and provide the entertainment themselves.

They missed their flight and so fretted that the other couples were bonding while they were stuck in the UK.

Cockney cabbies Jamie Marsh, 48, and Dee Marsh, 47, who also owns a burger bar.

The couple, from Essex, have left behind their 10-year-old son to pursue their dream of winning the farmhouse and opening a B&B/barber shop.

The couple want a better quality of life for their son, Jamie Junior, and had planned to move to Spain anyway.

Conservatory builder Nigel Wilson, 47, and pastoral social worker Dawn Burns-Wilson, 43.

The couple, from Bolton, say it is their dream to open a traditional B&B.

Clive Robinson, 52, a warehouse driver, and Christine Robinson, 54, a checkout operator, from Lancashire.

The couple are fed up with the UK climate. A previous attempted to move to Spain failed because the couple couldn?t find the right property.

James Flanagan, 56, a plasterer, and Tricia Flanagan, 58, a receptionist.

The couple, from Kent, say they would like to see more of each other and that they had planned to move to Spain in the next year anyway.

Trouble in Paradise beings at 9pm on Thursday April 29 on ITV1.
Not sure about the Big Brother/Survivor style of voting people out. I'd have thought the people who deserve to win most were the ones who did the best job with the work.

It sounds interesting and I am sure it will be.

I am getting a bit concerned about what might be next in the reality stakes though.

I shudder to think.

If its anything like moi and OH decorating our bedroom recently - there should be lots of 'slight disagreements' lol All my fault as I kept changing my mind - resulting in extra visits to the local B&Q.

As you say ROB just what will they do a reality show of next.
