Default Big Brother on \'Big Brother\'

As most of us know BB himself has been answering questions over at the C4 forums. Brekkie over at BBBA has written up a good summary of what been said....

Quote:
Re: rules and punishments

“A firm and consistent application of the rules is very important. It’s exactly what we have been thinking and talking about.”

Re: wanabees

“One thing that lots of people are talking about is getting rid of the wannabe.
I am curious to know what people make of this - in some respects anyone who wants to be on TV in any capacity has a bit of wannabe in them. Even the housemates in BB1 were wannabes to some degree - they may not have been fully aware of what Big Brother was or would become but they still wanted to be on TV.
It’s maybe more about drawing the line at the glamour model type. Though, again, female wannabes seem to be more harshly judged than their male equivalents….
Hmmmm?”

Re: Nominations and “Vote to Save…”

“I’d better just say, just to be clear, that I wouldn’t want to get rid of the nominations - the housemates choosing who they do and don’t want to live with is just as big and powerful and element of Big Brother as the viewer vote - so I can tell you that that bit of it will remain. I am not convinced that there is that much difference between a vote to save and a vote to evict.”

“isn’t part of the joy of it chucking someone out!”

Re: tasks

“I like it too when they really get pushed and tested.”

“Between you and me I got really frustrated with last year’s housemates not trying hard enough with the tasks. Some really good things fell a little flat because they lacked the motivation. Pesky BB8 lot. N that.”

Re: the direction of the show

“There is a little divide between those who want to see the show return to basics and those who want more and bigger twists (particularly those who have been following the American Big Brother, who want to see us adopt the head of house idea or series long twists). But a couple of things appear consistent throughout - most people want nominations and evictions to be completely free of twists and most people want the Big Brother rules to be applied consistently. It looks like we may have got some of that wrong in recent years so I would like to assure you all that these two fundamental issues that affect your enjoyment of the show will be addressed.”

Re: All Stars

“I’ll be honest with you I don’t like the idea of BB All-Stars (though that’s not to say that someday I might not change my mind). I just feel we’ll have seen it all before.”

Re: Celebrity Hijack

“Obviously we were not expecting the kind of viewing figures we’d get on Channel 4, and one of the ideas of doing this this year was to give Celebrity BB a reast from Channel 4 (it seems a sensible thing to do after the hysteria last year). It also gives us, as producers, the chance to experiment with the programme and do something different and in that respect it’s worked really well. One of the things we really wanted to do was make it all funny - which is the job of the hijackers. We generally wanted lightness not nastiness and, though you can never ever predict what’s gong to happen, I think by and large that’s been the case.
We’ve also tried things that you would never normally do in the real Big Brother - particularly in terms of information from the outside world bleeding into the house (eg, Brian Sewell telling Liam he’d seen the bishop bashing stuff and so on). I think this has been interesting. Obviously getting celebrities to decide who’s nominated etc is not something that’ll happen again but we thought it would be fun to try and see what happens without all the normal pressures that we are under. Personally I have had a blast - it’s been great fun.”

Re: The Big Brother Convention

“I know all the Big Brother’s from every country. I mentioned before that every year there is a Big Brother convention and we all get together to share ideas - some of ours have been used in other BBs and we also take some ideas from abroad.”

Re: 6 in the final - the fans don’t like it, Davina doesn’t like it - and neither does Big Brother

“Yes. 6 may be just on the too many side I agree.
But we are going to do the final night in quite a different way which may or may not work but we are going to give it a go.”

Re: HMs scribbling on walls

“If I suggested shaping the whole series round scribbling on walls I am sure one of my lovely colleagues would recommend that I spent a morning with the show’s psychologists. However, what I am actually getting at is that, rather than telling people off for what they do, it is sometimes far more interesting to let people be and allow them to do what they do and in that way you find out far more about who they are.”

Re: the House Next Door

“I don’t think the house next door really worked to be honest. Too many new housemates to deal with.”
