Default \'Paul Connor\' becomes Simon Cowell?

We used to know him as Paul Connor, and frankly we've missed him since he crashed out of Coronation Street last year.

But Sean Gallagher fans will soon be able to see him take on the role of egomaniac record producer Mal Faith in Rock Rivals. The character is supposed to be somewhat reminiscent of Simon Cowell, and the show revolves round an X Factor-style talent competition, of which Mal Faith and his wife Karina (played by Michelle Collins) are judges. Our sister site, TV Scoop, preview the show here, and say, "if you enjoy reality TV shows like The X Factor, bitch slaps, music, and can tolerate a bit of soap-ish melodrama, you will absolutely love Rock Rivals. The acting is fantastic, the humour is sharp, and there’s a blow up doll."

Ian Wylie of the Manchester Evening News was at the press launch, and asked Sean Gallagher about why he left Corrie. His reply was, “I don’t think you ever know what it’s going to be like until you do it, a soap. It’s a very different process, from beginning to end. I didn’t know what to expect. You kind of realise it’s not for you. I’m very pleased to have been in it and feel kind of honoured to have been in it. It’s like it’s a classic show, isn’t it?”
