Kath Beedles now Producing Heartbeat
Ex-Emmerdale series producer Kathleen Beedles will produce the latest series of ITV's Heartbeat.
Beedles produced Emmerdale from January 2005 to December 2007 and oversaw the popular "Who Killed Tom King?" storyline, the 35th anniversary episode and the arrival of new characters including Jo Stiles, Lexi Nicholls and David Metcalfe.
During Beedles's tenure, Emmerdale won the RTS Award for best soap in 2005 and picked up a BAFTA nomination last year.
Beedles will replace Archie Tait, who has been in charge of Heartbeat for the past four series. Tait was responsible for bringing together characters Gina Ward and Phil Bellamy, before the dramatic shooting that lead to Bellamy's death.
"I have had a fantastic four years on Heartbeat and I’m very proud of what the show has achieved," said departing producer Tait. "I’m delighted to hand over the reins to Kathleen; I know Heartbeat will be in safe hands."
Beedles, who has already started preparing for series 18, said: "After three amazing years as Emmerdale's series producer it's great to have a new challenge. I've always loved Heartbeat and am looking forward to building on the success of the past 17 years."
Keith Richardson, Group Controller of Drama for ITV in Leeds, said: "Kath is the perfect person to produce Heartbeat. After her success with Emmerdale, I’m looking forward to seeing what she has in store for Heartbeat.
Series 18 of Heartbeat begins filming at the end of May.
