GAVIN & Stacey stars Matt Horne and James Corden dropped into TV Biz HQ and told us about their growing band of famous fans.

And it gave us a chance to ask single James about his new pal Lily Allen.

Matt who plays Gavin in the hit BBC3 series which returns at 9pm tomorrow, told us: “I was on the Eurostar and Liam Gallagher stopped me and said ‘Can I shake your hand?’ Noel’s also a fan. It’s amazing.”


James — aka Smithy — reveals: “Rio Ferdinand keeps texting me, quoting from the show.”

James wrote the comedy with co-star Ruth Jones (Nessa) and the two are working on a Christmas one-off for BBC2 — but don’t hold your breath for any more Essex-boy-loves-Welsh-girl antics. He admits: “Ruth and I are just committed to writing the best special we can.

“We don’t know what will happen next. It may be that we just end things there.”

Matt says the comedy’s success has helped the lads’ luck with the ladies.

He’s already been linked with Kylie (at which he rolls his eyes).

James claims: “Girls don’t normally fancy me,” but that didn’t seem to be the case when he had his hot encounter with Lily on her chat show this week.

He told her: “Let me tell you this. We’ve met once or twice but on my life, without irony or agenda, truly, I don’t think you realise how lovely you are.

“And I think you could do with someone to tell you every day.”

A tearful Lily replied: “Thank you very much” and added: “That is how you get into a girl’s pants . . . are you single at the moment?”

When we ask about Lily, secretive James just mutters: “I can’t say anything”. Hmm ...

The boys had a nice little earner hosting Big Brother’s Big Mouth and the NME Awards but Matt says: “We’re not doing that any more.”

But they are writing a sketch show for the Beeb. Can’t wait.
