Will they gain votes, but lose the fans?

I saw an interview with Nigel Lythgoe (from Pop Stars and American Idol) and he was asked why they didnt/dont change the format on American Idol to a large extent. His answer - if something works why change it. Too much change can ruin things.

BB have gone the other way entirely and tried to put as many alterations in each year. People dont on the whole like too many changes. Are they an improvement - we shall wait and see. Why is it that the UK BB seems to be the one that makes the most changes each year.
