Default Britain\'s Got Talent - Comic in Race Storm

Quote:
COMIC IN RACE STORM
A star of last night's Britain's Got Talent once had his act cut short after he used offensive racist jokes and ran about in a Rastafarian wig.

Millions of ITV viewers saw singer and comedian CJ Harper perform for judges Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.

But the 35-year-old showman once left an audience in disgust with a string of foulmouthed jibes at Rastafarians and Pakistanis.

The performance was so upsetting that people stormed out in disgust.

Harper, whose first name is Craig, was thrown out and bosses at the company bash refused to pay him.

An audience member said: "He started with a few funny songs to warm people up and it was quite enjoyable.

"But then he suddenly launched into a vicious tirade of racism.

"He told jokes about Pakistanis living in Bradford and at one stage he was running around with a Rasta wig on.

"People just sat there openmouthed. There were a few boos but he didn't get the hint.

"After a while, a few people had enough and walked out and he started jeering them.

"It was very awkward and then one of the bosses jumped on stage and stopped the show.

"The guy was so out of touch, it was embarrassing."

The show was held for an annual business briefing by a newspaper company in Hull, at the city's Spring Street Theatre in November 2006.

When people walked out in protest, Harper sang: "Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye."

The company's managing director Phil Inman cut the performance short. And bosses also called a meeting the next day to apologise to staff.

Mr Inman said that Harper was warned beforehand not to tell jokes of an ethnic nature.

A boss at the firm said at the time: "It is astonishing the performer ignored the brief he had been given and thought it was appropriate to use racial material to an afternoon audience of professional people working for a responsible community publisher."

The company wrote a letter to Harper's booking agency Newland Artistes refusing to pay up.

At the time, Bridlingtonborn Harper complained he was the victim of political correctness.

He claimed only two people walked out of the show when he adopted an Indian accent for a joke.

The full-time entertainer said: "What is racist about that? If I do a joke about southerners and put on a Cockney accent, is that racist?

"I've got Asian friends who make Asian jokes and I've performed in front of Muslims and Rastafarians with no problems. The other day this Rastafarian stood up in a show and put his arms round me and called me his brother.

"In 24 years, that's the first time the act has been stopped. The world's gone PC mad.

"Most people were laughing. Most people were enjoying it.

"This is really affecting my confidence, all because of the PC brigade."

Default utter rubbish!

What a load of rubbish this story is! I have known craig for many years and i can assure anyone reading these vicious rumours that he is NOT a racist! Why the press feel its necessary to try and make people look bad is beyond me, is it a case of jealousy or what that some people have talent?!?
People should be giving these talented brave individuals who have the guts and determination to appear on TV to try and get somewhere for themselves all the support and encouragement they can, not try and ruin their chances by making up stories with incorrect facts!!!

All the best craig, keep smiling and doing what you do best - entertaining us! x x x

This is the guy who did the Boyzone act right? If he tells racist jokes then he'll get what he deserves.
