I didnt like Charleys fake eviction, i mean it was good but the only part i didnt like was the silent crowd, i just hate when a housemate walks out of the door and theres silence.

I think there was a lot of atmosphere with Charley's fake eviction, it was very tense with lots of anticipation even though it was silent.
I prefer a crowd, theres more atmosphere especially when Davina is talking to the house. When she has done it in silence it feels very flat. |

Needs a Crowd to give it a good atmosphere... if only people wouldn't boo when it wasn't necessary.. when Charley was evicted it was right because she wasn't nice in there but to boo someone on the way in is C.R.A.Z.Y!

I would say no crowd but only because of the current mob that is always there, booing any attractive female even if they haven't done anything wrong.
If the crowd was more varied I would be happy for them to keep the crowd. |

A crowd is what adds to the asmosphere without it seems abit flat.

Difficult one - I don't like them right outside the house, and I hate the unnecessary booing. It's fine when the HMs deserve it, but half the time they really don't and so often the mob are out of touch with the general opinion of viewers.
If they remained they should be moved back towards the studio (like in BB4). Personally I think they could do without for general evictions - I quite liked the set up in Celeb BB2 with a small crowd in the studio, but they could still be heard in the background as the evictee left the house. If axed from evictions though, they should be kept for the launch and finale. The other alternative is to ditch the outdoor crowd and have a large studio audience instead. It depends though how that's set up whether it would be successful - I wouldn't want a traditional TV audience set up, it needs to be more informal. I have opted for no crowd though - the evictions desperately need something different, and ditching the crowd forces a change. "Studio Davina" is also a much, much better presenter than "middle of the mob Davina". |

Crowd. There wouldn't be no BB atmosphere if there wasn't a crowd.

You don't need a big crowd for atmosphere though, and sometimes a smaller more intimate crowd can be more effective. Deal or No Deal is an obvious example - if they had a big studio audience I don't think it would work as well.

Deal or No Deal have audiences for different purposes. Upon eviction, the crowds IMO usually represent the opinion of the general public although many people confuse things and think that forums such as this are average viewers when in fact they aren't. You're not wrong to say Deal or No Deal doesn't have an intimate audience but look at evictions on similar shows such as I'm a Celebrity. The atmosphere there is as flat as a pancake and even with a smaller audience people would just be standing there clapping. It wouldn't add much but it would take away a lot.
The housemates know they will probably get booed but the housemates and the public shouldn't take it to heart. As Davina says, its only panto. |

It's gone way beyond panto though in the last couple of years. If axing the crowd means the housemates can relax more and don't spend the first few weeks analysing their reaction on the way in and their last few weeks worried about being booed on the way out then so be it.
