I like BGT but I hate when people say that BGT is miles better than BB. People at school always say "Look at the ratings". Yepp but I would like to see where BGT is in 7 years time and see if its still gets 9 million every show. BGT is fresher thats why its getting better ratings, if it goes on for another 7 years I doubt the ratings would be above 5 million.

Anyone agree?

Its very hard to compare them because they're completely different shows. I agree with your point tho.

i would agreee but BGT is shown on ITV which means it will always get atleaste 5 million

I think in a few years the ratings will drop for BGT because its not new and people have seen it all before. This is why shows need to change to keep going and hopefully BB will be changing this year.

and also, BGT is on once a week for a smaller time span. BB is on everyday for 3 months and it sustains usually massive viewing figures. thats what people forget about BB! The scale of it! if BGT was on everyday for 3 months it would have catastrophic figures.

Nope, but BGT will be on every day for at least a week towards the end of its run.

Nope, but BGT will be on every day for at least a week towards the end of its run.

yes but obviously it could sustain itself for a week. Big difference between a finale week and a whole 13 weeks though!

No it couldn't. When Big Brother clashed with BGT last year ratings dropped to below 3 million an episode. If I remember rightly one of those episodes only got 2 million. Not exactly what I call sustaining itself.

Not what I meant. I said that yes, for a short period of time, BGT could absolutely trash BB in ratings (such as BB8 week 1). But over a period of time, Big Brother has longer staying power. It has a wider fan base. Yes, due to its length, viewers get distracted by other shows, but at the end of the day, BB is the longest running Reality tv show in Britain, with the most fans.

BB might have staying power, and BB might be the longest running the reality show in Britain, but all television bosses care about are ratings.

Obviously it doesn't have the most fans - other reality shows (such as BGT) get much more ratings, therefore meaning more people watch the show or are 'fans' of it - but no matter how many dedicated fans a show has, bosses have reason to be worried when ratings drop to that level.

This is why I'm glad the show is beginning later this year so Big Brother isn't trashed by BGT in the ratings.

But if thats the case then whose to say it was BGT's fault that BB's ratings dropped week one of last year.

It's pretty obvious - the week BGT is on: poor ratings. Once Britain's Got Talent finishes: ratings go up.

Doesn't take a genius to work that one out.

Obviously BB has more fans! Otherwise would it have lasted 9 years? If BB was only on for a few weeks like BGT, then it would get massive viewing figures as well.

The fact is, we shouldn't even be comparing these two shows. They are too different. One is long term and one is short term. One can sustain middle of the road viewing figs. for an extended period of time, the other gets a short lived burst of popularity.

I agree, that BB shouldn't put itself up against BGT. Its not in its hayday anymore. It needs a clear run with good viewing figs, to rejuvenate it and make it a stronger competitor for next year.

It may have lasted nine years, but it has lasted nine years with (around) the same amount of fans.

There are other reality shows that get more ratings and are more popular with the general public. Big Brother isn't as popular as it once was.

Hopefully BB9 will be the series where Big Brother gets some viewers back - but I'm not so sure it will.
