Default Do you think Big Brother needs a break?

i was just thinking that big brother is now about to start it's 9th series, and it has been contracted for a 10th and 11th series also, carrying us through to 2010.

Do you think big brother needs a break after the 11th series finishes?? And, if so, for how many years?

Personally i do! i think it is getting old, and it should have ended after BB6? the producers are running out of fresh ideas and that's air enough after 8 series', and we're now seeing the same housemates over and over (fame seekers)!!

And i think it should not be back on till 2015 at least!!

I'm not sure. I thought Big Brother should have been rested after the eighth series but the ad campaign for this series has really picked up and the house is fantastic- it looks to be a brilliant series!

i dont know, i think it will very much depend how the next couple of series go. i loved bb7 but bb8 was a disaster. but if they save it this year, then it might be ok, otherwise it most definitely needs a rest.

lol.... its not offending. I think 2010 will be the very very end of BB. Unfortunately- i still think its a quality show. It can constantly re-invent itself so i think it always stays fresh.

so why cant big brother go on for years and years
and the fame wannabees are being targted this year like channel 4 has said channel 4 has declared war on the wannabees

I think it definitely needs a rest soon... give it 2 or 3 more years... and then maybe it should return, as you said, in like 2015. That, in my opinion, is a great idea.

And by 2015, I'll be old enough to audition, as well. =D

Nearly 50 years of constant Corrie did it no harm. I'm not saying BB will be going for that long (and I hope it isnt tbh) but it doesn't need a break.

i hope not, i think that this series need to be the best and get major ratings. that way it will get producers pulling out all the stops for the last two seasons.......

that way it will hopefully get their contract renewed !!!!!

Soaps fluctuate. Its currently on its way back up. All soaps go through bad patches at least once every 2-3 years.

WHAT? you can't give a show like big brother a ten year break, it would be forgotten and lose its audience. 2/3 years is the biggest break you can give it, 5 years maximum, because after that people would forget, before 5 years, people would still be looking forward to it. it would still be anticipated. i dont think people would wait 10 years.

yer but if anything this website has prooved that it isn't hard to come up with fantastic logos and house designs just take a look in the fan made section. but what is hard is coming up with fresh twists and tasks. Housemates who intrest us enough to watch them or even vote for them to win but still to vote for others to be evicted. I think this year and next year big brother should experiment with the format like bbau is doing. Then pay close attention to what people think of it then choose where to go next. Sure bbau isn't as good as it used to be at the moment but it will be even better in the long run.

I think 5 years is definitely the break it needs... 10 is too much, but 2-3 is too little - people will still remember it. But in 5 years, it will have gone really quiet, and if it came back out of the blue, everybody would be like "Ooooh, remember Big Brother? It's coming back!!"

5 years, for me.

i must agree with projectweirdo. i think the big brother empire is getting tired, and if it were to semi retire and come back then it will more likely than not come back in spectacular style.

ten is too much, but 2 is way too little

EastEnders has been going since 1985, why can't Big Brother last that long?

that's what a break is and what big brother needs though, everyone to forget it, then for it to come back have a huge advertising stint for it (eg 2 months - one month of eye flashes to really build up a hype) that means that everyone who can remember Big Brother will get exited again, kids that are thirteen just now will be 18 then. it could come back with avengence.

I have a feeling that after BB11, they wont be bringing it back, it will be seen as just a 10 year show in the 2000-2010 era.

i think it all depends on this series. The producers appeared to have re-invented the show from last years' disater of a series into a war and order "image". If they are successful - its shows that the producers can come up with brand new ideas and re-invent the show in litreally a space of 7 months. If they continue to re-invent from series to series it will NOT need to take a break.

If they do not re-invent it will need to take a break, but taking it out of the spolight may be actaully worse for the show, so continue to run celebrity/specail editions of the show while it goes on a "hiatus"

A soloution to all this is the producers, as soon as they can't come up with something new - that's it! There sacked. We need wacky producers who are just as mad as the housemates and can make a great series.

Well if they took a break for 10 years, would you watch its return? Do you think we would all have grown out of BB? Thats the problem.
