Default \"Blind Brother\"

The Sunday People is claiming that a disabled person will enter the house.

no, this is highly unlikely because big brother would get a lot of criticism for putting a vulnerable person into the house. for example, shahbaz.

I can't see them putting a blind person in - that's a ridiculous idea.

it would depend what sort of disability they had, im sure if it was someone with a mild disability it should be fine, why shouldnt everyone get the oppertunity!

The title says blind

That would just be massive handicap to the house as a whole because they would have to do 'equal' tasks.

Here is the article:

An insider said: “After the racism issues with Jade Goody and Emily Parr they will go out of their way to avoid accusations that having a blind housemate is in any way wrong.”

The move has been backed by an RNIB spokesperson: “I think having somebody blind or partially sighted on Big Brother could be really positive in terms of changing people’s attitudes to blindness.”

Bosses will strongly deny any accusations of exploitation when accused. The source added: ”BB is ready to take a blind person into the house. Everything possible has been done to make sure the person settles in and is not sidelined.

“The house has been designed in an accessible way. Bosses plan to do everything in their power to make sure the person’s stay is comfortable and enjoyable.”

We always get the story a disabled person is going in every year. I will believe it when I see it.

The first blind housemate in 'Big Brother' was Ángela (GH9 Spain). She was evicted with 92,69% (record in Spain) in a nomination with 3 housemates up for eviction.

The ramp from the living are into the garden and the mostly level house.

well since they are an employer they must make the house to suit diability regulations anyway, and they are not allowed to discriminate against people for age, sex, race or disablity. If they are a good housemate this would be good. however i would not like to see them as being the "person in the wheel chair" the one who we must feel sorry for.

Blind people are just as capable as us and I would hope BB does not discriminate. Remember the flack they got for putting Pete in? Everyone thought it was a cheap trick but he turned out to be one of the most loved housemates ever. I really don’t think it is that ludicrous for them to put a blind person on the show.

I would not like this rumour to be true only because the show would already be won before it even starts. It would be like Pete winning all over again unless the blind person was a complete idiot and acted up.

No, what would morally be wrong is a disabled person being denied the chance that non-disabled people are given. They're not babies, they're perfectly capable functioning adults and they don't need our sympathy or moral bandwagons to tell them how to lead their life.
