Q&A with Anthony
Quote:
Every day this week in the run-up to the launch of the new series, DS:BB is speaking to a different housemate from Big Brothers past. First up, BB6 champ Anthony. What's he up to now? Would he go back to the show? And who's the only housemate he's kept in touch with? Read on to find out!
Where are you right now?
"We're doing The Friday Night Project for a Big Brother launch night special. I'm here with a lot of different housemates from each year. A few of us are doing different sketches and stuff."
What sort of sketches?
"I was doing a sketch with Kinga. We were watching Alan and Justin, re-enacting the time when Jade got her kebab out. Her words, not mine! I say to Kinga, 'who would do something like that on TV? It's disgusting'. Then Kinga asks if I am finished with the bottle of wine I've been pouring and it cuts to the episode where Kinga... had her 'incident' with the bottle."
Will you be watching the new series?
"I'll watch the launch night, because it's always interesting to see who goes in the house. The evictions are on a Friday night when I'm normally out, but I'll definitely watch some of it."
Do you watch the show with a different perspective now?
"Aye, I'd have to say you do, like. I remember the year after mine, it was surreal seeing other housemates going into [my] house. As a couple of years have ticked on [I] get more used to it, but even today I was flicking through a magazine and looking at the new house to see what rooms had changed. The pool looks very similar to the year I was in."
Have you stayed in touch with many contestants from your year?
"No, not at all. Only one - Maxwell. He's the only one I've been in touch with. It's quite strange, because you're doing quite an intimate show with these people but then don't stay in touch."
Do you have any regrets about your time on the show?
"I'd have to say no. It was a fantastic experience, one I look back on as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Financially it was very good for me. Off the back of Big Brother I did some amazing things I would never have done, such as my boyhood dream of playing at Newcastle United's ground."
Would you ever return to BB for an "all-stars" version?
"Yeah, I would. It was a great experience. It would be rude not to, if they had a winners' year!"
What else are you up to at the moment?
"I've taken up DJing and I'm still doing my '70s dance show. I've just been offered a pantomime that I'm most likely doing this Christmas. I've bought three houses and I'm in the middle of getting one of them done up. That's it, really. I'm thinking about opening a hair salon but I'm not too committed to that just yet. I still haven't got a proper job, which is class, because I'm a lazy git!"
