Marco started the confessional session by revealing his secret - he'd once written a letter praising himself to a boss in order to snare a better job.

Hardly a whopper to make it on to the Jerry Springer show, but the law student giggled with shame, his bald dome shining with perspiration.

Dan hinted that his secret was more sensational, but when the heat turned on him he clammed up.

"It's not something that I've come on Big Brother to reveal," he said, ignoring the barrage of curious questions.

"You shouldn't have mentioned it then," Jay pointed out aggressively, obviously not a man who likes being kept in the dark.

The housemates just couldn't let it lie. "Was it a sexual secret?" Jay asked, pink with excitement. "Was it work related?" Marco wanted to know.

Porn? Criminal activity? A secret identity? The air was thick with theories.

Dan was enjoying the attention but remained frustratingly vague. He did reveal that it was nothing to do with hairdressing, and that it was an "achievement".

Jason, who seemed curiously well informed on the subject, decided that Dan was a male escort. Hooting with laughter, the hull hairdresser chortled: "Yeah, that's it!" But it was clear this was not the correct answer, much to Jason's annoyance.

In the end it was Shell who badgered him the most, chasing him out into the garden in her quest to find out his shameful secret. "You're in M15, in the KGB!" she speculated.

Dan remained firm. "When everybody comes out [of the house] and you read the papers you'll find out," he sighed mysteriously. "It's really quite trivial." And with that, he hightailed it into garden with a trusty fag.

Will we ever find out what Dan's secret is? And more importantly, if it's worth the wait.

By teasing the housemates with some titillating hidden fact about himself, Dan might be playing for time, hoping to stay in the House. The real secret is how he feels about eviction on Friday and facing the real world once more.

But those of secrets you only reveal to Big Brother...

Dan said at one stage last night that he hadn't said anything about his 'secret' as he did't want to be seen as coming in the house just to promote it. I know he sings with a band called 'Icehouse' and they have had moderate success in the past so I presume he's talking about this.

Well, I did read that Dan's very good at blagging gigs for iceHouse and they HAVE played at some big venues and gigs so they must be good. I heard him sing a little on E4 today, it wasn't much, just a few words but his voice sent shivers up my spine
