Default Amy punches fan at Glastonbury

Amy punches a fan at Glasto
Monday 30 June 2008

Amy Winehouse has once again managed to find herself on the front pages of the gossip mags after her Glastonbury performance ended in her punching.

Amy begun her set confidently and it seemed the last few disastrous weeks might be behind her but members of the crowd described how she slowly became more forgetful, slurry and angry as her set disintegrated.

In between songs Wino could be heard insulting Kanye West and she was spitting at the crowd. Things finally came to a head when, in front of thousands, Amy repeatedly punched a fan.

Last night Glasto boss Michael Eavis said of Amy’s punch: “The man deserved it. He grabbed Amy’s breasts as she went past,” while Amy’s spokesman added: “ One person misbehaving did nothing to spoil a great couple of days.”

However, other versions of the events claim it was a girl who was punched and that the fan was only trying to give Amy a hi-five.

LOL I remember when Lauren told me about this. I knew it had something to do with Blake.

I saw it live, and have watched the video a few times.

Personally, I can't see anyone grabbing her breast - but the video is very unclear.

Yeah I watched it too. Couldn't see anything properly because of the security guard but she did look pissed off about something.

She sounded awful anyway.

Its a shame that this very talented girl is such a live-wire.

Doesnt she know that its the fans that buy her music. I'm an Amy fan and I am ashamed of her behavior

Who said she is a role model for kids? Does she sing Rehab at birthday partys? No.

He was being sarcastic. The majority of the people in the public eye, singers and so on, are obviously looked upon by children.

I'm inclined to believe the girl attempting to high five Amy and getting punched is the truth.

Glastonbury boss: 'Amy Winehouse punched in defence'

Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis has defended Amy Winehouse's scuffle with a fan last night (June 28), saying she was entitled to defend herself.

The singer appeared to punch someone in the front row as she performed 'Rehab' in the pit in front of the stage.

A video of the incident can be seen below.

The festival chief revealed she reacted after being groped by a fan.

"It was a shame what happened at the end, someone put their hands on her boob," explained Eavis. "Come on! That's not on. He deserved it, he put his hands on her breasts!"

However, Eavis called the singer's set a "triumph" and revealed the incident has not put Winehouse off Glastonbury.

"It's the biggest crowd I've ever seen on that stage," he explained. "She was absolutely brilliant, she became a superstar. You know what she asked me at the end of that show? 'Can I headline next year?' How about that? Will she? I don't know if her manager approves, he was standing behind her, but that's all she said to me."

She actually elbowed them.

Before now I've always supported her and liked her, but now I just think she's a ****ing mess and she doesn't deserve the icon status she has. She's only a great talent in studio recordings; her live performances are always AWFUL.

I actually hate her now.

Yeah I picked up on that. So was I. Amy does not have to be a role model. Its up to parents to talk to kids about their favourite celebrity sucking on a crack pipe. But parents? Intelligent discussion with their kids? We cant be having none of that now days .

If you watch the full video she elbows at first and then starts jabbing/punching into the crowd.

Of course. I have seen the video. I meant to put "She actually elbowed them first".

Amy Winehouse Glastonbury 'punch victim' speaks

The fan who was allegedly punched by Amy Winehouse at Glastonbury on Saturday night (June 28) has spoken out about the experience.

James Gostelow, a 25 year-old Londoner, told BBC News that the incident was the result of mistaken identity, as someone in the crowd behind him threw a hat at the singer.

Golstelow claimed that Winehouse was reacting to the hat being thrown, and believed it was he who had thrown it at her. He said he was not bitter about the incident, saying it was part of the of the festival experience.

"I saw a hat being thrown from behind me and it hit Amy's beehive," he said. "She looked down, saw me looking up, and her elbow went for me.

"She caught my forehead, then someone may have shouted something from the back, which is when she went in again.

"At the end of the day it is all part of being at the front and being pushed by thousands of people. It is all part of the Glastonbury experience. I'm just pleased I got to see her. She did a great act.

"Not everyone can say they have been hit by Amy Winehouse. I just want to shake the person who threw the hat."

I watched that, and she done it coz the fan wouldn't let her arm go and she probably was scared. I think everyone should leave Amy Winehouse alone and let her live her life with the husband she oves so much!!!!!

Watching the video back, no-one grabs her arm?

Secondly, no-one is stopping her from living her life with Blake - it's him who is stopping it by being in jail! (And her for lengthening his sentence by bringing drugs etc in).
