With News Paper reports like this one below appearing in the international press is it time we took a stand and reclaim our privacy from the nanny state?

Why don't they just give us all prison tags and have done with it? Thats what they seem to be going up to.

If you haven't seen it I recommend watching V for Vendetta, its my favorite film of all time, Its based around conservatives running the country, and the whole country has a curfew at night and if you don't stick to it the finger men rape the women and attack the men and vans in the street record your conversations in your house via satellite. Basically long story cut short the whole nation stands up against the government. And its a really inspirational film.
But its true, the government think they are our parents and they wanna keep an eye on us all. I understand they want us to be safer but I don't want to have to watch my step on everything I do, when I walk past a policeman i was get this feeling someone is watching me and that I feel like I've done something wrong and that they are going to stop me, that would be the feeling 24/7. We are not babies and we know what we are doing, there are other ways to tackle crime than to monitor everything everyone does. |

I doubt they'd actually implement this. There'd be too much outrage.

Brah **** in England is out of control. You got cameras everywhere, police are allowed to search you for no reason, now they are going to put metal dectors up on the streets.
**** like that doesn't fly here, we have constitutional rights that limit the governments imposition into our lives. We are afforded unremovable rights to protect us against unreasonable search and seziure along with many other rights. If the British populations wants to protect itself from the government it needs to act fast. England is quickly becoming a Police state. |

The mail makes out this is a new thing.
It's perfectly possible for the government to monitor your calls, texts and emails as it is and they have used the technology many times to find criminals/ terrorists etc... |

Texts for example are kept by phone companies, even after they are sent- which police can access if they wanted to badly enough. There is also means of tracking emails and phone calls... |

The proposals to eves drop on e-mails has been going on for some years now....The subject pops up every so often I think so Government can get a taste of public reaction before trying to implement some or all of it's proposals..
Security and terrorist tracking is their excuse for doing it.... My understanding is that e-mails would not be kept to read but instead just a record of who e-mailed who where and when. the content I understand would not be retained. However give governments an inch and you soon have abuse of people privacy and rights....... A difficult subject to evaluate. However i feel in the long run be afraid be very afraid..... |
