Default Let\'s hear it for fence sitters

I here a lot of people complaining about Rachel fence sitting, but I do wonder if the complainers ever know what life is like on the fence.

When two groups you are friends with, fall out big time and each side expects you to choose them it kind of gets hard.

Back in the 1980's I was placed in that invidious position.

This weekend I found myself in that position again, for reasons of confidentiality I can not go any further into details at this time.

It's the easy way out to choose sides and just dump someone else in it and stab them in the back, but some of us do not have that liberty and we are required to remain neutral and impartial when both sides clamour for us to join them.

Am I the only one here who get's irritated at people for criticising Rachel for fence sitting?

It seems that the critics have never found themselves in that position

What do these critics do when like me they get caught in the middle.

Think I get the gist....sometimes if you have to be 'tween a rock and a hard place, you just have to say 'FFS just sort it out between yourselves!' hop off the fence and go n have a smoke lol

genarally fence sitters usualy go over to the weaker side, reason being is that once your at the top thers only one way to go, down, therfore if your in the possition to choose a certain group you would choose the weaker, which then would make them a little stronger to over throw the top group,eg,rachel spends the majority of her time with the so called weaker group, and if she ever did choose?i think she would go with the likes of kat, darnel, sara et al, well thats my spin on it anyway

It's about balance for me. I can appreciate Rachel's ability to look objectively at every situation. However sometimes life calls for you to get off the fence and make a strong decision. Neutrality is good in moderation...moderation is good in moderation

I think it's okay to be a fence sitter occasionally, but you have to develop opinions to progress yourself. Rachel is on the fence for EVERYTHING, which is the main problem.

She wasnt necessarily on the fence last night when she stood up to darnell about his shouting, i guess she finds it easier to sit on the fence because she doesnt want to upset anyone

I can sympathise with people if they're stuck between two friends arguing but she's never forthcoming with an opinion on anything and that's what gets to some people.

She does comfort people if there is a problem, she has done this a few times now, she did it with Mikey yesturday. That is not sitting on the fecne. Some people just want an easy life, nothing wrong with that, we are all different, it would be a boring world if we were all the same. I don't care if she doesn't always give an opinon on something, the fact is she is a lovely girl, with manners, and hasn't got a nasty bone in her body.

Of course she stood up to Lisa and Bex that time she spoke to them, that's what that means!

According to Victor, Dan has sat on more fences that Worzel Gummidge.

Dan was a terrific housemate. Nothing wrong with being a "fencesitter".
