RIK WALLER MAY ENTER US POP IDOL
RIK Waller may enter the US version of Pop Idol so he can confront judge Simon Cowell again. Cowell famously told Rik he was "too fat to be an idol." Rik, who is in New York to record a cover version of Something Inside So Strong, says he might go along and audition just to see Cowell's face. Record company executive Cowell is helping to judge the US show, called American Idol: The Search for a Superstar, which is to be screened on the Fox network in the summer. Rik says he is sad that his relationship with Cowell soured after he was forced to quit the show because of throat problems. He said: "Every time I see him I go up to him and say, 'How's you doing, Simon', shake his hand and be really nice to him. "I think that is the thing that annoys him more than anything, the fact that I'm not nasty to him when he would so love to get that reaction." Rik is hoping to break into the American market after having a top 10 hit with his UK debut single, I Will Always Love You. He said: "The US is anybody's territory. You've just got to make sure you do it right. There are many British bands who haven't made it in the United Kingdom but are massive in America. "I think I have the tools to break the American market. One thing that is becoming increasingly more evident across the world is that people aren't bothered about plastic pop stars - the ones who care more about their looks than their voice." ----------------------------------------------------- I seem to remember that Simon actually liked Rik and it was Pete who didn't want him on the show. Personally i don't think he's a very nice guy and if he had have carried on in the British version of the show, he certainly wouldn't have won! |

That is just pointless - I dont think Simon will be bothered if he went to the USA or not.
When I saw him first, I thought, 'wow, what a fab voice' and then I felt sorry for him cos Pete rejected him but now, he has just made himself out to be totally stupid by slagging off the final 10 and whole show! |

I'm sorry to be harsh, but my god! does this guy have no limits????
He's only going to be making himself look bitter if he goes to spite Simon, and can i just point out......... It's AMERICAN Idol Rik. You, my boy, are British, unless I've missed something? What a fool! (sorry, have little sympathy for Rik.) And I hardly think they are going to let him win when he's not American - I wpould be peed off if an American won our version - isn't it meant to find homegrown talent? |

I tend to agree with you, Wildchild and Glitterbabe - I really liked Rik's voice when he was in the final 50 and hoped he would do well in Pop Idol.
However, after he left the show, he has gone down miles in my estimation - he's been rude about the other Pop Idol contestants, and seems to have become totally arrogant and annoying in the extreme. Although he has a good voice, he desperately needs some decent voice coaching - his version of 'I Will Always Love You' was appalling - 'Aaah will' ..... and 'bitta sweet memories' - urgh! Glitterbabe - who's that in your avatar? I know the face but can't put a name to it and it's driving me daft! |

" Merde! Tis not him!!! Just me is right, tis Andrew Lincoln from 'This Life' (repeat it at a normal hour BBC2 - I havent seen em all, and I'd like too!!!) and Teachers. He is very hot (come on , dost thee all not agree?) and he's left Teachers now - I miss 'im! Anyway, sorry about the political message in the middle of the post (re:BBC2), it's just that they repeated This Life last year at 11.30/12 o clock night. Now what is the point in that, when lovely people like me need our beauty sleep. Sick and Wrong (say it with me!) Anyway, hope that clears that bit up!!! And Rik : leave it!!! You are only embarrassing yourself mate! |

He is the worst person to ever go on a show like that all he wants is sympathy for being fat! Oh and i don't think he is even fat his head is to small - it looks like a fat suit! (sorry to be bitchy - but i realy don't like him x) |

Hmmm. Must agree on "I will always love you" - the song was murdered (not that it was especially wonderful in the first place, there are much better love songs, eg: 'Don't wanna miss a thing' and 'Chains') But thats off topic, so I won't go there! ;o)
I liked him in the starting rounds, but as soon as he left the competition, he became a media bitch. |

I agree about the fact that fat discrimination is sad. I speak as one who is qualified to do so. I have now overcome 90% of my problem physically, but as an adult I am pretty sure my considerable weight did not hold me back half as much as my negative self-image. I still did pretty well in my career, although I always felt the need to make fun of myself and look for reassurance. I was constantly told that it didn't matter, and that I made more of a problem of it than anyone else.
That can be pretty annoying for other people to deal with. The other approach is to be aggressive and in your face about it like Rik. I have to say that Rik Wallers problem is attitude as much as anything. He had the platform from which to launch a sucessful career, but basically he blew it by being pretty obnoxious and arrogant. He also lacks star quality. That's the real issue |

The trouble with reality music shows is they aren't very good anymore at finding artists that can sell large amounts of records and stick around for a bit.
I think the problem, increasingly, is that the producers are going for short-term gimmicks to get ratings. You can almost guarantee that the X-Factor won't find a star, for instance. Only Will Young, Girls Aloud and Lemar have been really successful out of these shows. Lemar one a few awards at the MOBOs just there. |
