We’ve had four weeks of BB already. Can you imagine? That’s us approaching the halfway point and there has only been one person evicted as a direct result of a public vote! Friday was the first time any of the housemates would have had to experience someone leaving because of their nominations. Eviction nights are funny. A week previously you gave reasons why you wanted a person to leave, but when that time comes around you feel terrible. For me, that meant nine weeks of guilt. Before going into the house I knew the nominations would be the hardest part, but it was so much harder than I imagined. Excuses A lot of the time the reasons you give are actually excuses, which means you can’t back them up properly. It starts badly and gets worse. The more you get to know people, and the fewer there are to choose from, the harder it gets. On the BB Internet forums it had been predicted the split in votes would be 80 per cent for Vanessa and 20 per cent for Dan, but it was even more decisive — 86 per cent to 14. I wasn’t surprised Vanessa went but I was pleased. I don’t think the house will miss her. She didn’t appear to have a fun side and, in fact, she’d been going round with a face like a hippo with a headache. In the post-eviction interview, Davina usually tells housemates they were great to watch. All she could say to Vanessa was, “In the house you were a stunning looker.” She made no reference to her personality at all. What made me really mad was hearing her say to Davina, “I’ve asked Dan to look after Shell.” What business does she think she’s got? I know they were very friendly and, yes, she will be concerned about her, but how patronising. And again, she trotted out this utter tripe about the food fight and people starving in South Africa. Dear goodness, that was just chronic. Cake Davina was forced to point out, “Listen Vanessa, it was only a bit of cake.” And again she spoke for the nation. It can’t be easy being the first person voted out by the public, though. It’s a bit of a slap in the face and I doubt Vanessa’s had many of those. I think she’ll simply believe she’s above public opinion. Earlier in the week Jason put a kind slant on the fact he wanted her to go, saying it was because he was getting fond of her. That was quite diplomatic of him. What wasn’t so diplomatic was when, earlier in the series, he claimed she wasn’t the most beautiful girl in the world. Her face could have hit the floor when she saw that piece of footage. One of her faults is she probably thinks she IS the most beautiful girl in the world. With Jason and Vanessa it was blowing hot and cold. But will it really matter to him that she’s gone? I don’t think so. He is becoming increasingly bored but I don’t have much sympathy for him. We made our own fun last year and, as long as we had someone to chat with, we were contented and amused. It’s only week four and the vast majority of housemates are still there, so if Jason can’t find anything to do there’s something wrong with him. People will soon get bored of him if all he does is complain. As for poor Shell, she’s gutted that Vanessa is away. Stupid I really feel for her. People imagine you can’t get to know folk all that well in a couple of weeks, but in the house you’re together 24/7. Someone I am getting to like a lot is Victor. My mum and I have been arguing about him because she thinks he’s great while up till now he’s not made much of an impression on me. I’ve been thinking his stupid big boy act was just that — stupid. But his wee rants in the diary room are quite hilarious and seem to be tongue in cheek. Perhaps his circle of friends do talk in that gangsta way. If he’s trying to be BAAAD, he’s not. But if he’s trying to be funny, he’s pulling it off in such an admirable way. We have to keep Victor in. All through the week I’ve felt gutted that Emma is no longer with us. She was one of my favourites for the crown. She was funny, caring, feisty, no nonsense and mischievous at the same time. I’m really missing her. Is it fair that she was the only one to be ejected from the house? I didn’t like the decision but there will be footage that we haven’t seen so maybe that’s not for us to decide. There are rumours she’s had a big pay-off but I’m not convinced. Last year the house rules stated that if you were evicted for any reason you would lose your chance of the prize. But then, her circumstances are different. Sadly, all in all, I think the toilet roll war has been about as exciting as it got this week. There’s speculation that BB5 has peaked too soon. However, I’m confident they have plenty more tricks up their sleeves. Last year things cropped up, like the swap with the South Africa house, a new housemate came in and an evicted housemate came back. This year Big Brother has changed the game. There’s no question that there are surprises to come. Well, tarra for noo! Sunday Post |
