Default XF: Back in September + Sticking to Saturdays

Quote:
X FACTOR bosses have scrapped an idea to rival Strictly Come Dancing with a live Sunday night results show.
Simon Cowell & Co came up with the plan to spread the ITV1 telly talent show across two nights.

But TV Biz revealed that Cowell only wanted to launch the results slot if it went out live — and was not pre-recorded, like Strictly.

However, that would have cost an extra £500,000 a week. And X Factor judges were demanding more cash on pay deals for filming an extra day

A show source said last night: “We will be sticking to Saturday nights and staying live.”

BBC1’s ballroom hit Strictly launched a Sunday night results programme last year — recorded immediately after the Saturday night live broadcast.

The new show drew an extra nine million viewers. So it was no surprise that ITV was keen to follow suit.

However, with a more unpredictable programme, Cowell was keen for it go live, while ITV and producers TalkbackThames wanted to pre-record.

The insider said: “The X Factor is not like other shows. You’ll have things like a judge walking out — like Sharon Osbourne last year.

“We could not have pre-recorded as you would miss out on all the action.”

X Factor is back with a bang in September.

Usually it has 3 shows in August so we'll either see 3 less auditions or it won't finish until after New Year, I hope it doesn't finish until 2009, no X Factor xmas number one

Usually X Factor begins the day after BB ends, so if it's the same this year XF5 will start September 6th.

I think there'll be less shows, as I can;t see Cowell missing an opportunity to get money

Ultimately its not up to Simon when the show ends. He'll find a way if he's desperate like doing a top 12 single like Pop Idol did that time.

Simon has the power to decide when it ends when you think about it. If he wants it in time for Xmas, it'll be in time for Xmas because it is ITVs highest rated programme

No doubt the X Factor will end in time for Xmas. No way would Simon or ITV have it any other way.

But ITV schedule the programme, they have the power to extend it out to six months of reduce it to six weeks if they want to. In the end, what ITV say goes. They could have had the results show on a Sunday if they wanted to, pre recorded. Simon wouldn't have been happy but he would have had to do it.

ITV don't care. They just want to sell advertising slots within the show. They don't care what happens to the acts once they're eliminated/win.

I'm surprised it starts in September
I am so glad its sticking to Saturday night, I only wanted a Sunday show if it was going to be live.
Its going to be hard to fit everything in, maybe we will have 3 weeks on auditions with a show on a Saturday and a show on a Sunday unless it will run into 2009

Yeah but they didn't. The reason they didn't put it out on a Sunday was because Simon was unhappy it would be recorded. Basically, ITV may be in charge, but what Simon says goes.

It doesn't. If ITV wanted to they could have had the results on a Sunday, pre recorded. It is up to ITV where the show goes, how many episodes there will be, its timeslot etc. Simon just tries to influence the decision so they'll order more series in the future.

Anyway we don't know what ITV are up to. We could be seeing auditions on both Saturday's and Sunday's after we had bootcamp or the judges houses bit last year on a Sunday and it was a success. Lets just wait and see eh ...
