Not one idea. When I was watching Beijing's I was thinking the UK are never gonna be able to even be comparable by 1% to the Beijing opening. There is actually literally nothing the UK can celebrate for the worlds biggest events 2012 opening! lol

I was watching the news coverage of the Bejing ceremony and I am already tired of hearing about it;; I think it is pretty obvious the UK could never compare to that, and all that money could've gone to better causes.

There is no way that our ceremony will even compare to the Beijing opening. It was awesome.

I am worried after seeing what china presented to the world today. I'd hate to be in the people in charge of the opening ceremony 2012 as they must be pooing their pants. lol

The main thing about London 2012 is that we have no real history in our country to the extent of China. Their Opening Ceremony was heavily based on their history.

I think for our opening ceremony we need to speak to the international community, incorporate the fact the U.K. is home to many race's. Have African themed segments, Middle Eastern themes, Chinese and U.S. themes. Ending with a British theme incorporating young people.

To light the Olympic Torch, I'd involve those Street Jumpers - they basically climb on top of bridges and rooftops and things. That would appeal to teenagers because its a young people's sport and very energetic.

I don't think it's fair to compare Beijing's ceremony to the others. It blew them out of the water!

I imagine they'll incorparate the anarchy in some way.

I like that! I like it a lot, Maybe a huge street dance section. big flips and jumps and stuff. A mega star from the UK, Paul Mccartney and Leona Lewis singing the national anthem as a duet, while the guards that guard the queen carry in the flags with loads of little kids singing?

Beijing is far one of best opening ceremony I have ever seen you can tell they planned that very very well., were never going to do anything better, no way. I have no clue what they could do, and I personally wouldn't even have the Olympics in London/UK. I just think our opening ceremomy will be slightly tacky? We didn't deserve it.

Even the UK's stadium looks really plain and rubbish. I think it was be decades before a stadium better than the Birds nest and Watercube are built for an Olympics. They are really beautiful buildings.

i disagree. They are not plain and rubbish, they are good. The look of the whole Olympic park looks great. Yes, i know, i mean the birds nest is the best stadium i have ever seen and the watercube is a work of art too, our stadium looks plain because it's compared to a complete work of art!

Beijing 08 stadium:

Proposed London village:

Final design:

Thats right, for some reason the committee ditched the 'Flower Petal' stadium, for a very plain Circle basic stadium which has nothing to it and it isn't interesting

Whatever happened to the first design for the London 2012 stadium? That was great - much better than the design we have now. Which like you said Conor, is very dull and boring.

http://www.eikongraphia.com/wordpres...20II%20480.jpg

That looked soooo much better.

Edit: Conor just posted a picture of it - that stadium is 10x better!

Apparently it was ditched because the council decided it would be to hard to re use for other events after the Olympics, wasting their money. The final design was something very basic and dull so it was easy to hold other events in it.

well yeah, the flower petal would of been FANTASTIC. But the stadium we have now is not that bad, i mean it is a sports competition at the end of the day.. The flower petal looks phenomenal! But the one we have now is not that bad. It's very practical too. with getting rid of it and all that after the games.

I also think 2012's Aquatic Centre looks FANTASTIC!!

Now looking at the birdsnest its just a basic building covered in a steal "Birds nest" cover?

I just have a feeling the 2012 Olympics will be a flop, especially if it's sandwiched between an Olympics as good as Beijing has been.

AHEM,To start with a domnio trail set up in the form of the olympic rings. Then someone will shout "let the games begin"
then a 4 mil firwork display will go of,a giant paint ball explosion will start,50 dancers will fall from them stringey things and start to do tricks a brass band will start to play an england flag will fall, then total silence....
The national anthem will then be sung by that welsh bird.
