Default I can\'t believe so many people want to enter the Big Brother house!!

Okay, pretty much ALL of the members of this forum say they are going to audition for Big Brother. My question is... why? I've decided to compile a list of why you should absolutely NOT want to enter the Big Brother house.

1]] The BB housemates are NOT liked. They are HATED. Even the most popular (which it is very unlikely you'd be) are hated by over 50% of the public. People don't like them, get it!? YOU WILL NOT BE LOVED.

2]] The BB housemates are NOT that famous. You may be famous among a select few fanatics (most people don't watch the show religiously or even know everyone's names - this forum hosts the few people who love it) for a VERY short amount of time but your fame will fade very quickly, and your life will be even more depressing once you've had that taste of what could've been.

3]] Being filmed all the time will literally make you go insane. It's not like being filmed for 12 hours then going to sleep. There are cameras everywhere, ALL the time, including when you shower, use the toilet, or sleep. After 12 hours in public I start to go a bit crazy in the head (even with access to a private restroom). That's about the limit I can go with no break for privacy. 94 days with no privacy at all -- I don't even want to think about what that would be like. This may be more of an issue for me than for others though, but I still think most people would hate being filmed all the time. That's why the celebrity versions don't have cameras in the wash room. Ever been in a public place when you notice some creepy guy has a camera pointed at you and is following you around with it? Remember how uncomfortable it made you feel? Well, get ready for multiple cameras pointing at you and capturing your likeness at all times from different angles when you're on BB.

4]] Life in the BB house is SUPER boring! Think about it. A task once a week, and the rest of the time there's nothing to do but talk to the same people day in and day out. By the end of two weeks of that you'll know everything about everyone and will have nothing more to talk about. Soooo boring!

In fact, I recommend that before you even think about going in the BB house, try just spending one day, 24 hours:
a) with a camera pointed at you 24/7, broadcasting live to the Internet, including when you do your business and such. If this doesn't sound too appealing, and in fact makes you self-concious, good luck dealing with millions of people being able to see you at all times.
b) Don't use TV or Internet that day. The BB house doesn't have these things. No books, electronics, nothing. See how fast that gets old.
At the end of the day, consider that on BB you will need to spend up to 94x that amount of time doing just that.

[/rant]

Wow, that was exhausting, but I really felt it needed to be said. To all you wannabes out there: PLEASE heed this warning!

I want to audition for Big Brother, and I am perfectly aware of the dangers - I do not want to enter Big Brother to be famous, as no one really gets famous out of it anyway, and I do not want fame.
I want to enter the house so I could see how I react as a person and to hopefully mature and see how I act in different situations. Do you remember Glyn off BB7? He grew so much, from a young boy to an adult. I'd like to see what happens to me, as I think Big Brother is a fascinating social experiment.
And how do you know being filmed all the time will make someone go insane? You don't know how a person would act in a situation, and you can't tell how they would react.
I am also aware that it can be boring - remember Lesley off BB8? She left because she was bored, but she still managed to progress as a person - she even wrote a book on her experience, albeit a negative one, it is an experience she can remember for the rest of her life.
I am not a wannabe, either. I would probably never do a shoot in Nuts (I think my stomach already thinks that), I would not have sex in the Big Brother house, and the only Magazine I would do an interview with is Heat (well, I am an addict). I would probably go back to my normal life, with some experiences to share with my friends outside of the house.
I say probably, because I just don't know how I WOULD act, that's why I want to go in - I want to learn more about myself and progress as a person.
You should not rant at the "wannabe's" on here, every one is entitled to their own opinion and life, without being told what to do by someone else. If someone wants to go into the house for the "wrong" reasons, then let them.

I'd do it.
I'm going to audition when I'm old enough.

I'm aware of all that but I want the experience. I wanna see how I react in the environment, cope with the tasks/twists, see how liked I'd be with the public, and although it's not ever lasting, the fame/money afterwards would be nice, even if it was for fifteen minutes. Also, as SiaSiaSia said, I wanna see myself grow as a person, and I honestly believe that happens in the house.

The only thing I'd hate however, is that I'd be forever tarnished with the BB brush, and since I want a Performing Arts career, it may not help, but that's a risk I'd take. Chances are, I probably wouldn't get in. Tons of people audition.

However, at the end of the day, if someone wants to go into BB, it's their decision and I don't see why it bothers you so much as to preach to us not to.

Okay, okay, these are good points.

After about 12 hours in public, I start to go a bit insane. I start fantasizing about how nice it would be to have complete privacy where no one could see me. It's all I think about. I can't think straight. Everything keeps coming at me. I get paranoid. Granted, you may react differently, but please follow said instructions above to test yourself before you audition just to make sure. If you get self-concious after 24 hours, surely 94 days would be a bit much.

What? Lesley wrote a whole book about her SIX days in the house!? I'm gonna have to look this up.

Anyway, I decided to test myself on this a few days ago. I sat in a room with no simulation to see how long I could do it. I set a timer outside the room that I didn't allow myself to look at. For awhile I enjoyed thinking, but soon I became more and more bored. I finally couldn't stand it anymore. I started having strange, even scary thoughts. I left the room and found that I'd only been in there about 7 hours! 94 days of that and I don't even want to think about the state I'd be in.

Oh, when I said "wannabe" I didn't mean it as condescending. I just meant "wannabe housemate" as in someone who wants to be a housemate.

awww I'd love to go on Big Brother, It would give me lots of time to think and learn about different types of people and with the tasks and everything it would be a great laugh. The cameras wouldn't bother me, I would porbably forget about them.

I assume in your little test you had ~13 new people that you'd never met before in the room with you? Interaction? Tasks? Challenges? Cooking? ... Thought not.

Solitary confinement isn't the same as being in the BB house.

Furthermore, with all due respect - just because YOU personally didn't enjoy it, doesn't mean others won't. You're applying your own exact experiences and responses to stimuli to other people and this is a slippery slope. You're saying it WILL get boring, just cos you think so. You're saying you'd start craving privacy - so everyone else would. You're saying YOU would hate to be hated, whereas not everyone would.

And again, it reeks of being patronising. I know you didn't intend to be patronising, but you're acting as if you're on a pedestal "informing" us of what you apparently think we don't already know. People don't need 'saving' and educated by you. People are not stupid. If they want to go in the house they've obviously considered the constant scrutinisation from the cameras and the public etc, their posthouse life, they've weighed up the pros and cons.

Well done that you don't want to go in the house, but don't try and apply your thoughts to someone else.

Edit: WOOPS hahaha, I just posted and saw how much I'd wrote!! Hope you don't take my rant to heart

LOL, awwwwwwwwwww same here Jackie46, but before I went in I'd have to madly dash about creating some stories so they could be splashed around the papers, all they got so far is me in a big controversial doll suite.

Okay, this is very true, but the same people can only be interesting for so long. Even with all of these things I think it would get boring fast.

"All due respect" doesn't really mean much. I know that others are different from me and would react differently than I would but to be honest I think these things are just the way humans are. Even though others might not have these reactions to the extent that I would, I think they would (and do) have them.

I didn't mean to be patronizing. People are free to do whatever they wish, and I'm fine with someone wanting to go into the house. But I honestly don't think people weigh the pros and cons like you said. I think most people (even if not the ones on this forum) are just thinking "Wow, how easy! I'll go in, just make sure not to get into any arguments, and at least that way I'll make sure I'm not hated. Then I'll be instantly famous and go outside and make loads of money and become rich! Hurray!"
