An X Factor double act were once arrested after going on the rampage at a gig.

Viewers will see Francine and Nicola Gleadall auditioning for the ITV1 talent series with a rendition of Avril Lavigne's 'When You're Gone' in tonight's episode.

The 19-year-old twins have been performing together for years, but their most memorable appearance happened in 2006 when they were booked to sing at half-time during a Sheffield Wednesday vs Barnsley match.

Francine and Nicola performed their own version of Slade's 'Cum On Feel the Noize' at the match, but their efforts resulted in jeers and boos from the crowd. In response, they launched into a foul-mouthed tirade against the audience and were carted away by police before things got out of hand.

They were later fined £80 for public order offences and were instructed to apologise for their behaviour. Their statement read: "Our actions were totally knee-jerk. When we heard the foul abuse being shouted at us from the crowd, our natural defence mechanism took over."

The girls' father David told the Daily Star: "I am rooting for them on The X Factor. What they did two years ago is behind them. They were young and naive at the time."
