I think last year's Big Brother flopped badly because of the awful Carole and her constant crying/bossing and clothes washing (why oh why didn't BB step in to tell the housemates about the washing machine)?? She spoilt it for me. By complete contrast, I think THIS series has been fantastic!! Good mix of housemates and good tasks. Congratulatons to the BB production team this year

CBB4 was the last good series (averagely) the rest have all had big lifts and major downfalls, but the first half of the UK series only had a few flaws. This party shows in the gradual reduce in ratings every year.

BB7 wasn't the cause of the flop, I hated the series but it is a fan favourite.
I think Big Brother flopped on BB8 launch night, if both men and women entered the house that night Big Brother wouldn't be in the state it is in now

BB7- short term ratings fix, long term failure. They used just about every twist possible in that series and it made them creatively bankrupt. CBB5 was rating really badly until the whole Jade thing. Then BB8 just topped the lot with the all female launch, and BBCH was one of the worst series ever, and just put the final nail in the coffin. BB9 came too late, but they're well on their way to restoring it, even if its just to get it back up into the high 3m range.

It hasn't actually flopped yet. It's still Channel 4's consistantly most watched program.

It's lost viewers certainly but until it gets under say a million or so regulary then it's not a flop as regular C4 programs only ever get about a million or so viewers ussually.

There are some exceptions like Secret Millionaire but generally BB is their highest rated programs. C4 isn't like the BBC or ITV, they don't get 8 million viewers a night anymore.

no I can't agree with that .... your not taking into account the cost of production .... just because it's ch4's biggest ratings winner doesn't mean that it's making a return that covers the cost to make it.
Clearly they are happy to go for bb10 with the 3 mil or so average but say for example the money they make from advert revenue at 2.5 mil rating isn't enough to cover costs.... Where did you pull the 1 million figure from?

I hated BB7 but I think the year which killed BB was BB5. It was an entertaining series and did well ratings wise after the appauling BB4 but it was the moment when Big Brother became a freakshow and trash tv.

This year they have brought it back a bit and it was really good so hopefully next year will go on to be even better.

A show like BB will always loose appeal with time though.

I hope next year they scrap BBBM and BBLB and put something fresh in their place becuase since Russel and Dermot left they have been terrible.
