THIS is the father Big Brother's Nadia has not seen for 11 years - and who still believes she is the son he remembers.

Transsexual Nadia, 27, was a boy named Jorge when she last saw Jose Luis Corte Leodoro in South Africa.

Jose stayed in Pretoria when his wife Conceicao Almada took their six sons home to the Portuguese island of Madeira in 1993. He has not contacted them since.

Conceicao said: "I haven't a clue where he is now and I don't care."

She and Jose's only sister Ana believe he does not know his eldest son Jorge is now a woman after a sex-change operation.

Ana, who has not heard from him since he left for South Africa, said: "Our mother died last year and I couldn't find a way of telling him."

Electrician Jose decided to seek his fortune in South Africa in the late 80s. Conceicao flew to join him with sons Jorge, Duarte, Agostinho, Luis, Miguel and Andre.

She said: "I didn't like South Africa. There was a lot of crime so I came back here."

With his father absent and his mother forced to become the breadwinner, young Jorge took on the role of mum to his younger brothers.

A neighbour in the village of Campanario said: "He used to make them meals and get them dressed in the morning to help his mum."

Soon afterwards the boy expressed an interest in women's clothing.

Schoolfriend Joao Martinho said: "He used to really enjoy wearing women's clothes during carnival.

"He was a nice boy and everyone around here liked him." Teenager Jorge was considered handsome. Conceicao told the Mirror: "He certainly wasn't ugly. Now I think he is just as attractive as a woman as he was as a boy."
