Get a grip, Louis: Should ANYONE from X Factor's Girlband really be stuffing their face with fish and chips?

At this stage of the competition X Factor hopefuls are usually being primped and preened.

Many of the contestants have had complete image and diet overhauls and some have been working out at the gym furiously, but it seems that Girlband singer Phoebe Jay Lau isn’t worried about piling on any extra pounds.

The 17-year-old - the curviest member of the less-than-svelte outfit - was spotted stuffing her face with fish and chips after rehearsals for Saturday’s live show.

The teenager looked to be enjoying the greasy junk food as she and fellow contestant Scott Bruton returned to the X Factor house in London together.

Lau and her bandmates found themselves in the sing-off along with Bad Lashes in last week’s show, and narrowly avoided a dramatic exit after the judges' vote went to deadlock and producers reverted to the earlier viewer poll.

"It's just too much to take," Phoebe said after the show.

‘I mean, Bad Lashes were just our best friends and it's so hard to see your friends go because they deserve it so much as well.

‘I'm so happy at the same time but it's just too much to take, seriously."

'Any criticism we're going to take on board now,' said fellow member Tita Lau, 19.

'Because we were in the bottom two, I think now it's time for Girlband to up their game and we're going to step it up. We don't want to be in the bottom two again ever.'

Marisa Billitteri was optimistic about the girl’s future in the competition.

‘We're going to make sure we get harmonies tighter and like Louis [Walsh] says to us all the time: 'Girls, just rehearse, rehearse, rehearse'.

‘And hopefully if we do that, next week we're not going to be in the last two again. It's just a horrible feeling. It's really terrible,’ she said.

The group admitted that they were devastated to see Bad Lashes leave the competition after bonding with the group at the house shared by hopefuls.

Last week over-25s singer Daniel Evans revealed a new slimline look after shedding nearly seven pounds on a dramatic diet.

The 38-year-old told the X Factor website: 'Since we moved into the house last Saturday I've been in the gym twice a day, and I've lost nearly a stone.

'I've been eating healthily and so far the weight's come off easily - I hope. Either that, or the new scales I've been using at the chemist are half a stone out.'
