Default Simon Cowell won\'t speak to Pete Waterman after Peter Kay\'s dig at the X-Factor

Simon Cowell won't speak to Pete Waterman after Peter Kay's dig at the X-Factor
SIMON Cowell is still spitting blood about funnyman Peter Kay’s X Factor spoof – and is refusing to talk to the Midland pop mastermind who appeared in the programme to make fun of talent show judges.

Coventry music mogul Pete Waterman, the man who discovered Kylie Minogue, was one of the stars of Britain’s Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice.

And last night, he accused showbiz pal Cowell of having no sense of humour.

The pair have fallen out over Pete’s appearance as a judge in the Peter Kay show, which attracted Channel 4’s biggest audience of the year with almost six million viewers.

It was a parody of talent shows but especially made fun of The X Factor.

To rub salt into the wounds, Peter Kay released a spoof single, The Winner’s Song, as transsexual singer Geraldine which charted at No 2 – one place ahead of real X Factor winner Leon Jackson.

Pete, who made fun of his stint as a judge on Pop Idol and Popstars: The Rivals, revealed: “Simon isn’t returning any of my phone calls. He’s one of my best mates but he’s fallen out with me. He doesn’t have a sense of humour.

“I rang him so he could say ‘Your comedy acting is genius, Pete’.

“But it seems he doesn’t think it’s at all funny, especially since Geraldine beat his act Leon in the charts.”

Pete also revealed that red tape prevented them from raising money during the show.

“We wanted to have a real live phone vote and give the money to charity,” said Pete, who launched Kylie’s career.

“We would have told people it was rigged, and we could have raised £200,000. But the bureaucracy and rules surrounding phone votes is now so ridiculous that in the end it became impossible and Peter said ‘forget it’.”

Pete, 61, admits he has never seen The X Factor and vows he will never appear on a talent show again.

“I get asked to do them all the time, but they’ve become a joke.

“The lunacy started on Pop Idol when we let the bloke on in a banana suit. It’s not about talent now.

“I don’t agree with it when they show vulnerable people. I couldn’t live with it if these shows damaged a contestant.”

Cowell, 49, launched a blistering attack on comedian Peter Kay yesterday, branding his spoof single ‘pathetic’. I thought the show was clever,” he admitted. “But the record was stupid.

“I hear he is going to release a Christmas single. C’mon, I don’t feel threatened in the slightest. I’ve got something in mind for the X Factor Christmas single, and I know which one I would put my money on.”

Kay’s Christmas single will benefit the NSPCC.
