Dont let them outside for a few weeks yet they could get lost. And when you do let them out, go with them and watch they dont go away [i'd say allow them out for 5 mins, gradually getting longer each day]. It settles them into the enviroment and gets them used to staying out longer

I've had a cat, but I got him when he was three so I don't really know anything at all about kittens.

if you're going to let it out put pepper on its feet so it can sniff its way home

I kid, they hate pepper, but theres stuff you can buy that does the same job

What you can do is put food out for him and sit nearby while he's eating. Gradually, he will associate you with food. Talk to him too, quietly. And use his name often so he will learn what his name is.

Once he has accepted that you are his friend, you can try giving him a few little pets. Again, don't push the matter. If he likes the attention, he will let you know and ask for more.

Good luck!
