BIG Brother transsexual Nadia had an emotional reunion with her mum who she hadn't seen for a year after emerging as the contest's £63,500 winner last night.

The 27-year-old Portuguese bank clerk won in a landslide victory, beating bitter rival Jason to the prize. Mother Condeicao had been flown in from Portugal especially for the final.

But Nadia told host Davina McCall she was glad she hadn't told the other housemates she was once a man.

Emerging to rapturous applause and cheers, she broke down and said to Davina, who wiped away her tears: "I was just so flattered to be there. Thank you."

And of keeping her sex change quiet she added: "It was more a reassurance of myself, it was not a secret. I just didn't mention it.

"It was very hard because there were times that I had to lie a little bit. I did not want to lie at all, there were times I wanted to come clean but I couldn't, I was so nervous."

Davina declared: "I cannot think of a more worthy winner."

When Nadia heard she had won with 74 per cent of the viewers' votes, she hyperventilated and repeated, "Oh my God", over and over again.

Fellow "harem" members Marco and Emma also burst into noisy sobs as they learned their friend had won Big Brother 5.

Despite being sworn enemies, Nadia and Jason had grown close in the moments before the announcement that she had won came. She had her hand on his thigh while he had his arm around her shoulder.

After revealing the winner Davina said: "I never thought I'd see you two hugging."
