Weekly news review

12 Nov 08

You've read the headlines now read the real stories....

Daily Star says…

Gareth Gates is in the running to replace Dannii Minogue as an X Factor judge because Simon Cowell is looking to add another male to the judging panel.

It’s not true! There are no plans in the pipeline to change the current judging lineup, Dannii is an integral part of The X Factor’s long term, it’s all just speculation.

The Sun says…

The X Factor finalists’ smash hit Hero has now raised £1 million for the Help for Heroes and Poppy Appeal charities, and looks on course for another week at the top of the charts.

It’s true! It has now shifted more than 540,000 copies, making it the top-selling single of the past two years! Help for Heroes founder and ex-Army officer Bryn Parry said yesterday: “This sum is absolutely amazing. I had no idea so many people would buy the single and give so generously.”

The Mirror says…

Diana Vickers is at the centre of a ‘fix’ speculation after she missed Saturday’s show. One theory is Diana did not have laryngitis but instead threw a sicky because she would have struggled with Mariah Carey week as the songs do not suit her voice.

It’s not true! Nobody was more upset than Diana about not being able to sing on Saturday night, and as to not being able to sing a Mariah song, people said she wouldn’t be able to sing disco songs but she proved what a versatile performer she is that week by nailing her disco song.

In a statement released today Diana said: “I felt under the weather all last week but didn’t want to miss out on the fireworks display. On Thursday I saw the doctor and was given antibiotics and the following day was diagnosed with Laryngitis by a Harley Street specialist. Up until Saturday afternoon, I was still hoping and praying that I would be well enough to perform but the producers spoke to the doctor who made it clear that I could risk long-term damage to my voice. I was absolutely devastated to be told I couldn’t perform on Saturday night and disappointed not to be able to meet Mariah Carey. I am due to see the doctor again on Friday so fingers crossed I will be able to take part in this Saturday’s show.”

News of the World says…

ANGRY Dannii Minogue has revealed X Factor boss Simon Cowell is giving her the cold shoulder, choosing to blank Dannii in favour of new judge Cheryl.

It’s half true! Dannii has admitted that she has found it “emotional” at times this series, and yes Simon does sit next to Cheryl on the live shows and gets on very well with her, but the idea that Dannii is furious at the lack of attention she is receiving from him is ludicrous!

The Daily Mail says…

X Factor fans are claiming Saturday's result was a fix and have launched a campaign to get booted off contestant Laura White back on the show, with over 18,000 people signing an online petition to get the Bolton lass reinstated.

It’s not true! Whilst 18,000 people have signed the petition to get Laura back on the show an X Factor spokeswoman strongly denied any foul play occurred during Saturday’s public vote.

In an official statement she said: “There were absolutely no issues with the phone lines or the voting system which is subject to rigorous procedures and protocols. Our viewers vote for the act they want to keep in the competition and last Saturday, Laura White and Ruth Lorenzo received the least number of votes.”
