Default Scariest and stupidest c**p I\'ve ever heard!!!

Ok right my dad and I were just talking about Obama and he told me that Obama want tos shut down Guantamo ( sp sp sp!!??) bay. ( Its a place where all the terrorists who have been cause are heald ) This means they would be free.
I think that is really stupid. Its just like letting prisoners free. If this happens i think there will be loads more terrorist attacks x

No they'd be transfared to another prison, just as secure as the one they're in now.

Yeah here's an article about it:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/1..._n_142593.html

Basically they'd be put in another country and would never be allowed to leave, the rest would remain in different prisons.

The reason why they have to do something is highlighted by people like Amnesty International:

Quote:
CLOSE GUANTÁNAMO

Hundreds of people remain detained in Guantánamo, without charge and with little hope of a fair trial.

Despite international outrage and the US authorities’ own stated wish to close the camp, Guantánamo is still holding detainees illegally.

Hundreds languish in cruel, inhuman and degrading conditions, including detainees who have been cleared for release.

Detainees continue to be transferred to the camp from secret CIA custody and elsewhere, confirming Guantánamo’s role at the heart of the US network of unlawful detention.

Guantánamo is a symbol of injustice and abuse. It must be closed down.

Amnesty International is urging the US government to close Guantánamo in a transparent manner which fully respects the human rights of those detained and brings to fair trial all those who are accused of recognizable crimes.

Fallacy.

Guantanamo makes terrorists, is a recruiting tool, is illegal. That is the problem. They could easily lock you, yes YOU, away with no oversight, no legal rights, etc. People in there are not given due process. If someone suspects you of anything, you could be locked away and tortured.

It means they are being locked up, tortured and left to rot without any proof they actually did anything, other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Not everyone in Guantanamo Bay is proven to be a terrorist.

Some of them may be innocent but haven't been offered the chance of a fair trial.

It's a terrorist recruiting tool, and some of these guys have been in there since they were 15 and 16 years old. They are going to be radicalized big time.

What Letmein and Red Moon said. Guantanamo bay is an embarassment to the west, we're supposed to be upholding a just and fair system and not abusing peoples human rights and The US are not doing that in Guantanamo bay. the Bush handling of terrorism has only made the situation worse

... I think only 2 or 3 have even seen the inside of a court room .. eg they have never been convicted with anything. When they do get their day in court it's a bogus US military court... lol they're all screwed.

George Bush said he wanted to close it down, but it is not that easy.

As for people detained without trial, if they were to be put on trial, then you would compromise intelligence sources.

We have seen that in this country where defence lawyers demanded details of prosecution witnesses and locations of hidden cameras, forcing the prosecution to drop cases to protect witnesses and intelligence gathering.

What would you prefer, an anomally which upsets a few lefty groups or more 9/11s and 7/7s?

This is a war on terrorism and those people are there for a reason

Hey Sticks long time no argue. hehe...
I don't think you could possibly know that they are in their for a "reason" given they haven't been convicted. No court hearing, no evidence put forward, no chance to defend themselves against allegation, no idea even what the allegations are and no right to a lawyer. I'm not defending terrorists... those that are can rot in hell but only a small percentage are alqaeda. The rest were picked up pretty randomly. Afghans sold out other Afghans that they were feuding with for the prospect of cash payments in US dollors from US troops.

I understand your "secrecy" argument, it's been trotted out over and over again, it doesn't back up your statement " those people are there for a reason". The quality of intelligent gained by torturing captives has proved to be very poor.

Oh and your point about George Bush wanting to close it down is questionable .... he was the prez that set it up. Saying he wants to close them down would mean he believes the whole idea was a mistake and another admission of a screw up on his part. He would never say that nor would that vice prez Cheney let him. Where did you hear that?

I hate the term 'lefty', like theres a few loony soft people out there with their funny "humane" ways! Guantanamo bay just brings more sympathy for the cause. Hold terrorists fine, Im all for that but treat them fairly and have evidence that they are terrorists and give them a fair trial, or we are just sinking to the level of an opressive, unjust and inhumane society, like other countries with poor human rights issues.

That's a load of horseshit! You can't just dismiss everything because it would somehow "compromise intelligence". That's the most dangerous thing a person could fall for. You could get away with all kinds of **** in the name of "intelligence." These people are being tortured.

You want to live in a lawless society. You want to live in the Soviet Union. Your "lefty" comment, just proves how important the Left truly is.

You are sending us down the road of having no rights, with the government being able to spy on us 24/7. But then, they'd have to to ensure not to "compromise intelligence."

This is not a war on terrorism. Iraq had nothing to do with 911. War was actually never declared. This is an illegal occupation.

More 911s will happen as a result of Guantanamo Bay.
