REALITY TV is turning us into a nation of "famephobics", a poll revealed yesterday.

And 96 per cent of us claim we would rather meet an alien than have 15 minutes of stardom.

We think fame has been devalued by TV shows making ordinary people such as Big Brother's Jade Goody and Wife Swap's Lizzie Bardsley "famous for being famous".

The UK Wish Report polled 1,000 people for Disney to mark the release of Aladdin on DVD.

Asked to pick three wishes from a list, 70 per cent wanted their children to be happy and successful, 56 per cent hoped for a world free of war and poverty and 39 per cent to have a lasting marriage.

Carolyn Spivey of Disney said the results were "surprising".

But psychologist Sue Keane said: "It comes as no surprise that few of us relish the idea of being famous. Coming under such close, often destructive, scrutiny is a high price to pay."

Yep, I think I'll just stick to being little ol' anonymous me!
The money would be nice (obviously), but the intrusion into my private life and reading stories about it in the press - true or untrue- would far outweigh this.

Well, personally I think I was MADE for fame and fortune, or why else was I blessed with such beauty and talent?

Seriously though, I suppose I would like to be famous but only in the right way.

Like JK Rowling. Fabulously successful and wealthy, but able to have a private life which appears to hold no great interest to the tabloids or the public. That'll do me.

Presumably the other 4 percent apply to go on shows like Big Brother... kind of explains the mix of housemates you end up with.
