Default Russian Christmas today !

For anyone who is orthodox here...Merry Christmas !

Why is Russian Christmas today ? Because the Russian Orthodox Church still uses the old Julian calendar; therefore, its Christmas celebration falls on January 7th, 13 days behind the West. It's a day of both solemn ritual and joyous celebration.

And my Russian family was supposed to arrive tonight but since all airports are closed in Southern France due to snow, they're stuck in Berlin lol

Russians in Berlin? I don't know who'd object more, your family or people from Berlin! Merry Christmas to all Orthodox people . How much does Orthodox Christmas vary from the commercial Christmas of December 25th, Remy?

They're stuck in Berlin because there isn't a direct flight from Moscow to Marseille so they have to take a flight from Moscow to Berlin then from Berlin to Marseille. But they can't get there tonight because the airport is closed, too much snow.

In the Orthodox Christmas, Santa Claus has a daughter and we don't eat meat: only a porridge called 'Kutya' with berries, wheat and grains. We also eat honey and various meatless dishes.
And of course Vodka, but I don't wait the second Christmas to drink some lol

Lol my mum doesn't know how to cook it, my dad does. It's very tasty actually, well, it's different from the catholic one but in the orthodox one, there is a stronger meaning around dishes than in the christian one.
But since I am not an orthodox, it doesn't bother me much, we do it because my father is.

And here is his daughter named Sniegourotchka:
