US magazine Game Informer has claimed that Rockstar will release Grand Theft Auto V in time for Christmas 2009

Rockstar North is already working on the fifth instalment of the open-world crime series, according to the publication.

PSU quotes Game Informer as saying: "We're not talking about new DLC or a collection of previously available DLC, we're talking about a full retail game.

"We expect this title to follow the suit of previous GTAs and use a subtitle such as GTA: San Andreas."

The magazine speculated that Tokyo may be the potential setting for the next game, but accepted that "details are non-existent at this time".

Rockstar has so far declined to comment on the speculation.

I dont care when the next game comes out just as long as its better than GTA4

It will use a sub name, as GTA IV is set to be one universe of games, like the GTA III universe. Im also not surprised it will be coming out this early. Obviously it took time to develop GTA IV. The follow ups will always be easier.

Not that I care. GTA IV gave us the greatest game world ever with the worst possible movement to navigate ever. It sits collecting dust on my shelf now, as I play games developers actualy want you to enjoy as you marvel at the sights and sounds.

EDIT : I think GTA will always stick with America, as the running theme has been the British made parody of American culture.

I still play GTA IV most days, they wanted to go back to basics with IV, like they did with III

The sequel will have a lot more in it

I think that is a poor assumption. Their still bikes, flight, shops and the addtion of the phone.

GTA IV did anything but go back to basics. It just made the franchise painfully realistic. Taking Nikko up a flight of steps was not fun, regardless of how awesome it was that each foot touched the step.

I agree with you on that. I also hope we get multiple, compact cities with countryside, as that made the variety in San Andreas superb. Also, the actualy story of GTA IV was not funny in the slightest and was shockingly straightfoward and basic. Not enough whacky characters. Just not my kind of game, IMO.

Luckily, the xbox gave us Crackdown. You can jump across buildings and fuck cars into other cars. Nuff' said.

Watching a film on itv right now called Carlito's way and the lawyer (sean penn) is the lawyer from GTA: Vice City

Vice City is taken from the film Scarface.

The next GTA game should take idea's from Saints row 2, Scarface game etc...

Plus what they had in GTA San andreas and GTA IV needs to come back (going to nightclubs, buying clothes, gym, watch tv, laptop, internet cafe etc) and made better, i'm sure they will push the boat out next time.
In Scarface the game you can buy things for your crib, buy and deal drugs etc, Saints Row 2 has the same with buying things for your houses and the clothes etc, well GTA should have all that and push it further like buying and selling houses etc plus the rags to riches is always good..

The next GTA has to be set in the state of San Andreas!!

Ahhh that could be a good idea, spanish american guy set in the us state of San Andreas.. Main city being LA... That kind of gang culture is huge in LA and has been so for many years.. They could write a great story with that guy and he is the cuz to the guy who dated your sister in the ps2 san andreas game!
A return to san andreas in lovely hi-def will be fantastic plus rockstar could still use all the great ideas from the first san andreas and GTA IV, plus steal ideas from saints row 2 and scarface... Would be a amazing game!..

Oh and a return of kentpaul, ken rosenberg, tommy, nicko, claude, bruce, cj etc would be great!

Also there is a city that many people in the gta games have said.. Carsa city i think it is... Could be Detroit!

Plus i hope in the next GTA we can buy and sell drugs... Scarface had it, the upcoming gta chinatown wars has it... Plus many other things from scarface game and saint rows 2 should be in the game.

Hmm.... I like the nicer characters, like CJ and Niko

I also love how Niko had a real back story, we could really see why he had become so cold and empty, it was good how decided to stop killing..before the wedding
