Default Has CBB6 proved Big Brother is worthy for the axe?

IMO, yes.
The show is not as good as it used to be, nor does it interest as many people. A few years ago, EVERYONE would have been talking about what happened on last night's Big Brother when they we're out & about, now, nothing.

What's your opinion?

Celebrity big brother has never been the best imo.

Normal big brothers are still "okay" not ready for the axe.

Celebrity Big Brother probably is.

C4 will keep it until it averages under 2m imo. Look what happened to Brookside, Im sure it was hitting 7-8m or more at the earlier points and they made it suffer so much and dragged it out soo long that it eventually ended with around 2m.

BB has been impressive. No reality TV show in the UK has lasted this long and its the "Original" reality series. The fact that it still averages 3-3.5m after 10 years is pretty incredible... especially as its on C4.

They definitely need to axe CBB. BB still has legs though.

Maybe not the axe but its definatly shown its time to put some effort into the show to change it
This series has been piss poor, nobody cares about it and the ratings are really bad. The ratings are getting to the point where Big Brother is rating just like the other successful C4 shows.
Its not event TV anymore, that special thing the show used to have a few years ago has gone and this format just isn't working
If the summer series doesn't see some huge changes then BB wont be renewed because the ratings will fall even further

It has proved two things - Channel 4 no longer care about it, and Endemol needs to get a new team of producers in.

Sharon Powers clearly can't cut it anymore, and nor can the task producers.

I still think there's life in it yet - but it does need a huge revamp.

channel4 must care about it, its one of their best shows. So the ratings have fallen slightly, it still picks up alot of viewers.

How is life in that bubble?

Ratings have fallen sharply in the last two years and C4 have failed to stop their decline. Nobody expected record highs this year, but at the worse CBB6 should have been matching BB9 - but no. The issue used to be about the show hitting the 4m mark, now it's about the 2m mark.

I always said this series was "make" or "break" and it's clearly broken. Celebrity Big Brother definately has to be axed for good now, and I think it will be. As for the main series, I still don't see it getting recommissioned beyond BB11 (by C4 or any other station), but they've got an absolute final chance with BB10 if they come back fighting with the much needed revamp. By the end of the BB10 launch show we will know for sure whether Big Brother can survive the axe.

P.S. Tonight's was one of the worst BB's I've ever seen.

Slightly? They've almost lost 2m viewers in 2 years.

BB isn't worthy of the axe IMO, but Celebrity BB is. The only way they can take the show now is having it with a game play slant and clearly the celebrities won't want to get involved in all of that and they'll be even worse. New format next January please.

I haven't looked at the percentage drop in audience between CCB5 and CCB6, but I would expect it to be in line with the drop between BB7 and BB9

The ratings have dropped dramatically on the main show since the Jade Goody affair. I was expecting the drop for BB8 but I thought things would start to pick up for BB9, but they continued to fall. Now that's not good.

While ratings continue to full we won't have the red button, the web coverage on the C4 BB site will be cut back, slowly the channel will kill the show off and will drop BBLM and the other spin off shows. Before we know it, unless BB10 is a success, we will find ourselves watching BB11 on E4.

Then question comes will Channel 4 commission BB12 with the down turn in advertising revenues caused by the credit crunch?

My gut felling at the moment is that the show needs something to make it buzz again, or it could find itself on a on some cheap and nasty satellite station. It's not reaching it potential audience in the 16-34 age range and those it does reach are being most affected by the credit crunch which is turning advertisers off.

It's all bad news for BB

Don't worry, Living will pick it up, it will complement their Jade Gobby shows!

This series has really been back to CBB5/BB8 territory where it feels like the producers have little faith in their own ideas.

Celebrity Hijack and BB9 may have rated badly, but at least they were actually rather good - Hijack is by far the best series of recent years and proof a new twist could breathe life into an old format.

And although BB9 had it's faults, they were relatively minor compared to BB8 - and most importantly the producers weren't scared of the format anymore - allowing nominations to remain relatively untampered (even if it did result in the dullest final line up ever), and they were pretty confident in what they were doing, for example keeping Head of House through to the end.

This series though and we're back to producers not being comfortable with the format again, having just two round of nominations, ditching HoH and not going through with tricks up their sleeves like using the jail or even dividing the house into Heaven and Hell. They seemed too scared of upsetting the celebs, and in protecting their feelings they've upset the viewers - and after all, we're the ones they should care about.

My thing is, for most people calling for it to be axed, will you feel the same way, when the summer comes and there is no BB? Will you feel the same if there is no CBB come january. WIll you be OK with it, and not complain about missing it.
For me, I think their ratings decline is natural, and has nothing to do with producers not putting effort into it, and things like that. I think they did a great job in the summer compared to the year before, yet it still went down in ratings.
SO I am guessing the show will keep loyal viewers, and will keep losing the casual ones. Its only natural. I hope it lasts.

It's not that we are not fans, it's just we just want our show back the way it was in the past. It's nanny Ofcom that is to blame. She is the one to look out for. She is killing broadcasting in the UK.

That is true, Ofcom! Dam Ofcom! But too many people run to Ofcom about anything, even some members on here have wanted Ofcom to take action and remove Coolio!
The show needs that buzz it had in the early days but after BB5 the viewers wanted that kind of BB, the BB of old was gone.
It's true tho Ofcom are killing tv, its the return of the Mary Whitehouse age.

We loved the show - but when it was good. We don't want it to linger on in it's current state, and obviously are preference it for it to return to it's former glories - but if it can't do that it's better it leaves our screens with a final shred of dignity rather than continues as a pale imitation of it's former self. With a choice between BB in it's current and no series this summer, I'd opt for no series.

By saying CBB6 is a break or make for BB10 is unfair! Its CBB, not many care about it and not many "celebs" are going to put 100% in with being a BB housemate.
Lets wait for BB10 before we swing the axe of fate.

A Big Brother of old can only happen with a revamp to create that buzz of old... But many viewers want "fight night" and that type of BB which will only upset non BB fans and Ofcom and will cause BB to walk on more egg shells than it is..
Maybe a revamp is due or a bigger break but BB can be saved with new blood... The sooner that happens the better!
