Default Top Of Your Pops.

This should cover every single aspect of your musical tastes and habits. I'm very bored and a bit of an insomniac lately so I'm devising a huge survey for you to fill out at your own leisure.

Desert Island Discs:
You are stranded on an island with no other people or possessions than a music player with 8 and only 8 songs on it. What would they be if you could choose them? Also, you are allowed one "luxury" item and one book. The luxury item cannot be another person, living thing, means of contacting the world, or a means of getting off the island.

Sum yourself up in a song title.
Have you ever cried whilst listening to a song?
This may not be always possible to answer, but what is your first memory of dancing/listening to music? (for example, was it at a wedding, or a school disco, or on holiday...)

First album you ever bought? Now 41
First single you ever bought? "Pure And Simple" by Hear'Say
Last album you bought? "Day & Age" by The Killers
Last single you bought? Downloaded "Let It Rock" by Kevin Rudolf ft. Lil' Wayne

Favourite solo artist? Still around, Michael Jackson. Of all time, David Bowie.
Favourite group? Still around, The Killers. Of all time, Queen.

Favourite genre? It's hard for me to describe myself in one genre, but if forced to pick I'd go for rock.

1. Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy - Beautiful song, and absolutely complete in every single sense. Great vocals, lyrics, meaning, beat and ambience.
2. David Bowie - Space Oddity - Was quite unsure as to which song of his to choose. There are much catchier and upbeat songs, but this one grabs you by the balls and doesn't let go.
3. Michael Jackson - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough - I don't know how bizarre the image of me on my own on an island dancing to this would be, but at least I know I'd be ****ing loving it.
4. Placebo - Protège Moi - Because it's great to feel pretentious every now and again by listening to songs with foreign lyrics. Translated, however, it applies to me quite a bit. Also, french sounds sexy.
5. The Cranberries - Linger - Because it's so 90s, so romantic, so simple and ideal to sway to. Also because I'm quite a hopeless romantic.
6. Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Because I must have some form of mo-town, and whilst dancing on my own would be silly, this is just a great song.
7. Camille Saint-Saens - Aquarium - My only classical piece of music on the list, because you don't need lyrics and words to speak sometimes, especially when something this outstanding speaks even louder.
8. The Killers - Mr. Brightside - For nostalgia's sake. I've spent many a night out screaming along to this in various nightclubs, and I'd enjoy reliving that on my own, despite the rather poignant feelings afterwards.

Your Library:
Who do you have the most songs by? And how many? The Killers, 44.
Who is the first artist to appear alphabetically on your library? And the last? A-Ha and ZZ-Top
Which is your most-played song? Bodyrox ft. Luciana - Yeah Yeah
Do you have last.fm? If so, according to it, who are your most-played artists? (top five) Placebo, Scissor Sisters, Fall Out Boy, AFI and Madonna

Listening:
Do you listen to the Radio? If so, which station(s)? Rarely unless it's on in a car, and if so, the local station (Gemini FM) or Radio1.
Name all forms of technology you have ever used to play music, whether through CD, radio, cassette tape or mp3. First had a walkman, which was fun. Then got an iPod when I was 14 and have since had 3 different ones due to breakage/sexyness.
How often would you say you listen to music per day? About 3-5 hours, not necessarily paying attention but in the background somewhere.

Meanings:
Which song is the closest in personal meaning to you? Hmm. With how I feel lately it's probably "Stuck" by Stacie Orrico lmao, but as for personal meaning it's either Orson's "No Tomorrow" or Coldplay's "The Scientist.
Do you have any favourite lyrics? "Sommes-nous les jouets du destin? Souviens-toi des moments divins." from Protege-Moi by Placebo (translated as "Are we the pawns of destiny? Cherish divine moments.") springs to mind.
Which song would you like to dance to as your first wedding dance? I love the video with Sir Mix-A-Lot as the first dance, lmao, but I'd choose something a bit more traditional. Perhaps "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer.
And which song would you like played at your funeral? I've never really thought about this and don't particularly want to. I don't think I'd have popular music played at it... but I could be mean and make everyone bawl their eyes out to something like Sinead O'Connor.
If you could pick a song to be used in the background of your best bits on Big Brother, what would it be and why? Laura BB8 bloody used "Yeah Yeah". So I'll go for "Body Crash" by 'Buy Now!'
Sum yourself up in a song title. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Have you ever cried whilst listening to a song? Often...when drunk. When sober? Hmm. Johnny Cash's "Hurt", Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work", Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" (during Love Actually) and Lighthouse Family's "High".
This may not be always possible to answer, but what is your first memory of dancing/listening to music? (for example, was it at a wedding, or a school disco, or on holiday...) For me it was Whigfield's "Saturday Night" at a school disco. But I also remember singing along to songs like Aqua and Shania Twain when they first came out lmao.

Genres:
Like or dislike (in general)? Also, state your favourite artist who'd fit into each one.
Pop: Yeesish. Scissor Sisters.
Metal: No.
Grunge: No.
R&B: No.
Hip Hop: Sort-of. Jay-Z.
Garage: No.
Drum 'n Bass: Sometimes. The Prodigy.
Electronic: Sometimes. Hmm...Daft Punk or Jamiroquai.
Easy Listening: Yes. Dido.
Classical: Yeah. Not really many artists I know But I do like Puccini.
Country: Err...some of it. Dolly Parton / Kenny Rogers ftw.
Dance: Yes Faithless.
Opera: Not much.
Indie: No.
Jazz: Yeees, but don't know a lot about it.
Blues: See above.
Soul: Yes. Dusty Springfield.

Recent Years:

Do you know of any up and coming artists who you could quite happily recommend to the rest of us? No.
Which would you say was the best song of 2008? "Black and Gold" by Sam Sparro.
Best band of the 2000s? To emerge it's probably the Scissor Sisters or The Killers.
Of the 2000s, which has been the best year for music and why? 2006. Went to see the Scissor Sisters, plus releases from artists like The Killers, Muse, Keane...

Way Back Then:

Do you wish you'd ever grown up with the music of another era? Yes. Not this one. Motown plz.
Favourite artists that no longer record/tour? I think Queen still do, so Bowie, The New Radicals, Blur, goodoldusty.
Favourite one-hit-wonders? Deee-Lite: Groove Is In The Heart / Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight
Have you heard of: Yuss, I wrote the survey.

Who would you say has had the most revolutionary impact on music (be it musician, politician or otherwise)? Probably Bob Dylan or the Beatles.

Talking Points:

Are you for or against illegal downloading (such as the use of filesharing websites and programs such as Limewire, etc.)? For. I don't see artists suffering as things are, so yeah.
Would you agree that too many bands are cashing in on the "reunion" tours seen by the likes of Boyzone and New Kids On The Block of late, and is this a good or bad thing? Depends on who it is NKOTB, no. No Doubt, yes.
Would you say that modern, popular artists are good role models for young people? Not many of them are...most take drugs, get bad press for a reason, can be a bit bigheaded (Johnny Borrell, please die.)
What makes a good artist? Creativity, the ability to sing at least well, and the absence of outside interference. Material that comes from the heart, not a machine or some writers paid millions.

Miscellaneous:
Do you have a song stuck in your head right now? Pure and Simple lmfao.
If you could put all copies of one artist's materials into a giant box and lock it away from mankind forever, whose would it be? Kate Nash. ****ing sing to me about lemons and mouthwash again and I'm burning an ephigy.
Have you been to any concerts/festivals? If so, which? Only one, The Scissor Sisters.
Favourite TV programme (past or present) devoted purely to music? TOTP ftw.

Do you listen to the Radio? If so, which station(s)? I never really do, if I do, it's generally Radio 1 (for Nick Grimshaw<3) or Gaydar.
Name all forms of technology you have ever used to play music, whether through CD, radio, cassette tape or mp3. Had a Cassette Player as a child, got a CD walkman when I was about 12, and then got my iPod Nano for my 15th birthday. Now I use an iPod Classic.

Meanings:
Which song is the closest in personal meaning to you? Christina Aguilera - Save Me From Myself.

From the song 'I'm Your Favourite Drug' - "What you get is what you see, it won't take much to get hooked on me, so shoot me right into your skin, and I will be your heroin" and from '**** Like A Star' - "Anorexic beauty queen with painted eyes so toxic, fully spreaded on her back, centerfold erotic, she's had a gram, a shot, a slam, enough to start a riot, everybody wants a piece but only you're invited." Both songs by Porcelain And The Tramps.
Which song would you like to dance to as your first wedding dance? Christina Aguilera - The Right Man.
And which song would you like played at your funeral? I've never thought about it and don't really want to. For the sake of the survey, I'll say Evanescence - Your Star.

This may not be always possible to answer, but what is your first memory of dancing/listening to music? The Spice Girls on Top Of The Pops. The first time I properly remember being interested in music though, was Avril Lavigne's 'Complicated' video on TV. Probably why I'm so defensive of her haha.

Country: Not really - Dolly Parton<3.
Dance: A lil' - Anything 'featuring Luciana'.
Opera: Nope.
Indie: Not really
Jazz: Yes but don't actively search for artists so probably Christina Aguilera's B2B era.
Blues: YES!! - Modern probably Adele, don't listen to selective classic blues artists.
Soul: Not really a fan of though I do appreciate it.

Recent Years:
Do you know of any up and coming artists who you could quite happily recommend to the rest of us? Porcelain And The Tramps, Frankmusik, Lykke Li, Kerli, Dan Black.
Which would you say was the best song of 2008? Sam Sparro - Black & Gold.
Best band of the 2000s? Rock band - Evanescence. Vocal band - Girls Aloud, followed closely by Take That.
Of the 2000s, which has been the best year for music and why? 2003 - Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Avril Lavigne, Daniel Bedingfield, t.A.T.u, Radiohead, Evanescence, R.E.M, Will Young etc. I'd say 2008 comes close too.

Way Back Then:
Do you wish you'd ever grown up with the music of another era? The 80s, and the 20s [for blues].
Favourite artists that no longer record/tour? Blondie, David Bowie.
Favourite one-hit-wonders? Benny Benassi - Satisfaction.

Would you agree that too many bands are cashing in on the "reunion" tours seen by the likes of Boyzone and New Kids On The Block of late, and is this a good or bad thing? Way too many. The only real successful one was Take That. Therefore it's a bad thing, though tbh, you don't really hear of them.
Would you say that modern, popular artists are good role models for young people? A few of them. People like Sam Sparro, and Duffy yeah, but there are too many Amy Winehouses and Pete Dohertys.
What makes a good artist? Being unique. There are too many Rihanna's, Leona's, Beyonce's, The Kook's etc. Being different, a unique style is the key to being a good artist. It's what gets me interested. Unfortunately, 'unique' doesn't fair well in the charts.

Miscellaneous:
Do you have a song stuck in your head right now? Yeah, MGMT - Electric Feel.
If you could put all copies of one artist's materials into a giant box and lock it away from mankind forever, whose would it be? Leona Lewis!!! Ugh. Grating voice, awful vibrato, thin higher range, awful songs, cliche lyrics, constant covers, bad music videos, boring, nothing unique whatsoever.
Have you been to any concerts/festivals? If so, which? Just two actually. An S Club 7 one when I was younger, and Sam Sparro for my 17th Birthday. I've bought tickets to John Barrowman's new tour, and I plan to see Lily Allen, Lady Gaga, Electric Six and possibly Christina Aguilera this year
Favourite TV programme (past or present) devoted purely to music? Top Of The Pops, and Jools Holland.

DONE.
nice idea Shauny babes.

How often would you say you listen to music per day? A few hours, maybe like 3/4?

Meanings:
Which song is the closest in personal meaning to you? Umbrella by Rihanna.
Do you have any favourite lyrics? I can't think of any right now, but yeah there are.
Which song would you like to dance to as your first wedding dance? The One by Shakira, though that'd be an odd one, or Make You Feel My Love by ADELE.
And which song would you like played at your funeral? Halo by Beyoncé. This is subject to change, I just love that song at the moment. Haha.
If you could pick a song to be used in the background of your best bits on Big Brother, what would it be and why? Raindrops by Sash! & Stunt.
Sum yourself up in a song title. Issues? Acceptable In the 80s? PMSL. Errr I'll go for Reach Out I'll Be There by the Four Tops.
Have you ever cried whilst listening to a song? Yeah loads of songs, depending on my mood.
This may not be always possible to answer, but what is your first memory of dancing/listening to music? (for example, was it at a wedding, or a school disco, or on holiday...) Errr can't remember the song, but when I was 2 or 3 years old, on holiday in France at some random disco. I won a medal for it! Haha!

Recent Years:

Do you know of any up and coming artists who you could quite happily recommend to the rest of us? (We Are) Performance, The Dykeenies, The Xcerts
Which would you say was the best song of 2008? I have a poor long term memory for this kind of thing, so I'll say Up by the Saturdays 'cause I can't remember songs released in 2008.
Best band of the 2000s? The Killers.
Of the 2000s, which has been the best year for music and why? I'd probably say 2008, I think lots of good stuff's been released this year. I just can't name any of it haha.

Who would you say has had the most revolutionary impact on music (be it musician, politician or otherwise)? The Beatles, The Jackson 5.

Talking Points:

Are you for or against illegal downloading (such as the use of filesharing websites and programs such as Limewire, etc.)? I'm for I guess, iTunes is only really good for current popular music, they're updating their older music catalogues but it's not enough. If you want to get music from other countries, you basically HAVE to illegally download. I don't do it very often, it's only as a last resort measure.
Would you agree that too many bands are cashing in on the "reunion" tours seen by the likes of Boyzone and New Kids On The Block of late, and is this a good or bad thing? Ugh yes. It's a good thing in the instance of Take That, because they basically sparked the whole thing. The Spice Girls, Boyzone et al can take a hike. They had their time, they made their millions.
Would you say that modern, popular artists are good role models for young people? No.
What makes a good artist? Someone whose first single is something you can blast out loud, but on their album has a mixture of meaningful ballads, meaningless beats and one or two really off the wall type singles. Someone who isn't a tabloid *****, someone who collaborates with other artists once they've established themselves as a good artist, someone who will appear on programs like the Friday/Sunday (whatever) Night Project to promote something, i.e. they're displaying a fun side as well as plugging whatever they're doing.

Miscellaneous:
Do you have a song stuck in your head right now? Halo by Beyoncé.
If you could put all copies of one artist's materials into a giant box and lock it away from mankind forever, whose would it be? Kate Nash. GET OUT. Lily Allen was enough.
Have you been to any concerts/festivals? If so, which? Kaiser Chiefs, The Fratellis, Rihanna, Clubland, My Chemical Romance.
Favourite TV programme (past or present) devoted purely to music? (such as TOTP, CUK, The Chart Show, Jools Holland Presents... etc) TOTP and CUK were EPIC!!
