Default Carol Thatcher dropped from \'The One Show\' after \'Golliwog\' Comment

The BBC has dropped Carol Thatcher from The One Show after an off-air remark in which she reportedly referred to a tennis player as a "golliwog".

According to press reports, the former Prime Minister's daughter was speaking in the green room with host Adrian Chiles and guest Jo Brand when the remark was made. It is understood that the incident was reported to the show's executive producer, and that Thatcher wrote a letter of apology. However, the BBC announced this evening that her contract on the show has not been renewed.

A BBC spokesperson said: "We will no longer be working with Carol Thatcher on The One Show."

Earlier today, Thatcher's spokesperson said that the leak of a green room conversation represented "a massive breach of trust", and added: "Carol has given the BBC an apology and as far as we are concerned we have had no apology back over this breach of confidentiality.

The journalist was crowned Queen of the Jungle in ITV's I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! in 2005, beating Sheree Murphy and Sid Owen to the top spot.

My sister used to have a golliwog doll, it's sad to think it's used as a racist slur now. I remember when they were banned from Noddy.

Its pathetic, it always seems were the ones now that are being rasist towards black people, funny though if a black person said something offensive to white people, nobody would care.
She didn't deserve to get dropped, not at all.

Yay someone agrees for once, LOL.
But yeah its kinda true though, e.g rappers get away with racist terms all the time in their songs. Its not really acceptable.
But back to the point, it just annoys me at how petty it was to drop her. Fair enough if it was what Jade had said. But it seems the media are picking up on white people at the moment with stuff like this.

This guy said this to me...

"your in a boat with 2 other men, one is white and the other is black, same weight, same age, same hight etc... But the boat is sinking, you have to throw one man off the boat now before you all sink... Who do you throw out of the boat?"...

Thats it! I does not matter... They are two men but if said one has blonde hair and the other has ginger hair you might have said who you would throw off... But because it is a white man and a black man it becomes a problem, which if we are all the same on this earth, should it matter who gets thrown off? But would the white man be a racist if he thrown the black man off?

Thank you! And for the record, I dont think there is double standard at all. The fact is, society nowadays is doing everything they can, to erradicate racism, which is a disease for the world, that doesnt belong in todays society. And the fact is, you cnt compare Thatcher's saying as a TV personality, to a rapper. Those are 2 different things. And show me what rapper have made a racial slur of that sort these days? We are trying to rid society fo that type. And the only way to make it happen is to be stern about it. There may be a time in the future where we wont need to, but the UK especially, is not there yet. Proof in the fact that a lot of you actually consider this acceptable!

But why does it have to be a racist act?
Everybody is in fear with upsetting other, hence walking on eggshells and making it worse...
If i said i thrown the black man off the boat does that make me a racist?

There is no terms like the OP mentined in that whole skits. Comedians make fun of black people all the time, but no racial slur is used, just funny stereotypes. LIke the american press keep saying Obama cool aid (which is reffered to because its a racial stereotype for black people), but its not racist, just funny!

Terms Like Golliwogs, or Pikey, Which is a term I see you use a lot by the way, are not acceptable. YOu obviously live in an environment where it is, and its not surprising that you find all these things funny or OK!! Back in the real world, And a TV personality would never say that and get away with it. Again, you cant compare some rappers, with someone like Thatcher. Rappers shock, thats what they do! Eminem use shock lyrics, in his songs, its not the same, as racial slurs.
