Default Task 5 / Full Details & Rules / PLEASE READ

N.B. There are no team leaders for this task.

Quote:
For the fifth task, the two teams will become political parties and compete against each other in the inaugural TiBB Moderator Elections.

For this task, you will be known as The Oinks Party, and your colour will be purple.

Firstly, you must create a logo for your party, and a banner and avatar to promote your party. You are allowed to enlist the help of other members to create these, but the ideas must be your own.

Next, you must create and plan five ideas and policies that you would enforce should you win and become moderators.

Finally, you should then write a maximum 1,000 word speech, addressing the members of TiBB and explaining your policies and ideas and why they should vote for your party.

Once you have finished the task, please send me the logo and speech, by U2U or MSN. The deadline for this task is Thursday at 5.30pm GMT.

The two speeches will be posted by me at the same time anonymously on Thursday evening, and the forum will begin voting later that night. Voting will close, and the results will be revealed, during the next live show on Friday.

Rules:
1. Teams ARE allowed to enlist the help of everyone except the other team to help with their graphics.
2. You must create no more and no less than five policies.
3. You are not allowed to promote your policies in your graphics.
4. Your speech must be no more than 1,000 words long.
5. Both teams' speeches will be posted by me anonymously on Thursday. Teams are banned from revealing which speech is theirs, and any candidate who does will be automatically fired.
6. The deadline for this task is Thursday at 5.30pm GMT.

If you fail to fully complete the task, or give me the required pieces (logo and speech) by the deadline, then you will automatically face the subsequent elimination.

Good luck!

So you can all see what we've been speaking about so far:

Tom ......... says:
did you have any ideas for policies btw
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
well i was thinking of new features to the forum as apposed to changes...
Tom ......... says:
i was thinking the 18+ forum what people wanted, pushing forward consideration for someone to be unbannned (like everyone keeps moaning about hannah and stuff) ...
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
yeah
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
we just need to think of amazing things which people think yeaaah that would be great
Tom ......... says:
well the 18+ forum definitely
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
yup
Tom ......... says:
protection of apprecation threads ... but with that comes the ability to make 'unappreciation' threads
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
lol yeah
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
maybe secret threads allowing only certain members to be part of a thread, or if ur the creator of the thread the ability to make it invisible to certain people
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
so the britney fans could discuss that in peace if they wanted,

say it was available to everyone at first but the creator could change that or something
Tom ......... says:
yeah
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
maybe a little chat box to replace the u2u?

like the facebook little thing that could pop up, its easier, for quick chat or questions, thats private from everyone else
Tom ......... says:
im just on your site, do you not do ads?
Tom ......... says:
ah wrong person
Tom ......... says:
im so glad it was you and not one of my mates though lol
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
lol! ok
Tom ......... says:
and oooh yeah
Tom ......... says:
maybe turn it into some kind of social networking where you have to add people as friends and stuff
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
yeah
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
i think the best thing about facebook is the chat thing so people like that

ooh and maybe more customizacle profiles?
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
or maybe a favourites section under the profile where people can choose their favourite posters
Tom ......... says:
we'll have to keep all of these ideas though and pretend we've spoke about them from scratch when we get our forum
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
lol yeah
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
You get rid of karma and instead have posts where you can agree with or disagrree like youtube comments

4 people like this reply etc
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
just another idea :P
Tom ......... says:
yeah
Tom ......... says:
maybe that could go onto the karma though
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
yeah ok,
Tom ......... says:
hang on ill log this chat then we can just copy & paste it all in
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
ok
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
maybe u could change it so that if you click like under a post then that could change the overall users karma :S maybe i dont know lol,
Tom ......... says:
yeah thats what i meant
snig; ...and a whole world of pain says:
cool

Well, Matt's doing our graphics..so if we got a rough idea of what we wanted it to look like...

As it's purple, maybe we could have a sillouhette of a pig. Maybe Oinks in white writing?

Maybe stars on it in true election logo style?

We could have a slogan on the logo...

Pigs for Power?

Go purple. Go pig.

Think Big. Think Pig.

Summarising the above we talked about, I narrowed it down to 5 policies.

Policies

- 18+ Forum/ Under 18 Forum

- Pop Up Chat box to replace u2u.

- Like/Dislike Post feature to update Karma.

- New more customizable profiles

- Power over Threads (Protection of Appreciation Threads / Ability to have Unapprecation threads and permission to 'make threads invisible from certain users provided there is good reason)

Just a reminder that the idea behind the task is to come up with the rules and ideas that you'd enforce or implement if you were in power and not about what features you'd add to TiBB.

Think Big, Think Pig I love

Because we can't do features what about if we do features that are part of a bigger rule change ...

You cannot post negative in an appreciation thread .... linking in with the power over threads idea

Can we do that kind of thing? Do a rule and state how we'd go about making sure that rule sticks?

That's fine.

For instance, you can make it your policy to have no negative comments in an appreciation thread, but you can't come up with features - like blocking certain members from a thread - to help enforce it.

Right well, because we have literally tomorrow to come up with it all, adapting the ideas we already have:

- Lift restrictions on language and what we can speak about by listening to the members and creating an 18+ Forum

- Ban negative comments from appreciation threads by implimenting power over threads (Protection of Appreciation Threads / Ability to have Unapprecation threads and permission to 'make threads invisible from certain users provided there is good reason)

- Make it easier to contact other members on the forum personally rather than bothering with MSN or taking the time to send a u2u by creating a Pop Up Chat box to run alongside u2u.

- Enable members to get their views across on posts more by using Like/Dislike Post feature to update Karma.

I think the u2u one is really scraping for a point and I can't twist any of the others so we need one more policy

ooooh I have another idea that would be pretty controversial

Every new member that posts has a 3 day validation period where members get to vote if they can stay or not ... would lead to a crack down on people who sign up with names like "bbizmint" and "kelly2winbb29" and would weed out all the annoying chavs we get with each new series

oh and matt please could you make the graphics outlined by sam at some point please

doesnt have to be tonight

Paragraph 5- 199 words

And now, moving on to our final policy and idea, perhaps our most controversial, is a validation period for all new members. We all hate it when annoying chavs sign up to the forum with names such as “omgbbizdabest” and “maysoon2winbb9”, as well as those who are so incoherent they can’t string a sentence together without using text speech. Well, not anymore. We propose that every new member will undergo a validation period where the members of the forum get to vote on every single new member. After 3 days, if the forum has allowed them to stay then they can and will become fully fledged members, but if the forum members have spoken and decided that the member cannot stay, then they will be banned with immediate effect. We think this would be an advantage for the forum and the members because it allows the members to have some form of authoritarian control over the forum, it allows the members to become more interactive with the main forum decisions and it lets the forum members decide who they will be speaking to for the next few weeks, maybe months or perhaps even years. Big Brother really is watching!

Intro and paragraph 1- 234 words

We want to listen to the members, so we will do any changes necessary to please the members. We plan to do this using a number of proposals which we hope will improve the forum both for you, and the running of it for the moderators.

We all want to say something inappropriate for younger members which is where your ideas come in. Recently there have been calls for an 18+ forum where older members of the forum can go and discuss anything, and say anything, without being shouted at by a moderator or feeling bad for posting something inappropriate for younger members. Well we plan to make this a reality. Our first proposal is to lift the restrictions on language and topics for conversation, and we will do this by making a 16+ forum. Now I know what you’re thinking, it’s a 16+ forum and not an 18+ forum. Well we think people 16 and over are old enough for some of the topics, and a huge section of the forum are aged 16 and 17, so we like to cater for everyone and not leave particular age groups out of something that could benefit them! But because we don’t like to leave out particular age groups, an exclusive 15 and below forum will be made for the younger members to discuss things which they may feel could be ridiculed by older members!

Paragraph 2- 159 words

Our next proposal is something close to the hearts of many of our forum members. Everyone hates it when an appreciation thread is invaded by negative comments, only for petty arguments to spill out onto the forum! We propose to ban negative comments from appreciation threads to stop petty arguing. The way in this will be done is by creating a new appreciation section and giving power to authors of threads. This power will include the ability to make the thread invisible to certain members so they physically can’t post in it! But as you may have already guessed, we don’t believe in people out on the forum, so an ‘unappreciation’ section will be made where people with negative opinions on a particular person or thing can go and air them! But the beauty is, the authors will have the same power, so the thread won’t be invaded by fans, if the fans even know the thread is there!!

OK paragraph 2 revision- funnily enough still 159 words

Our next proposal is something close to the hearts of many of our forum members. Everyone hates it when an appreciation thread is invaded by negative comments, only for petty arguments to spill out onto the forum. We propose to ban negative comments from appreciation threads to stop petty arguing. The way in this will be done is by creating a new appreciation section where all negative comments will be deleted which will be treated as a rule break and the author will be given a warning. But as you may have already guessed, we don’t believe in people out on the forum, so an ‘unappreciation’ section will be made where people with negative opinions on a particular person or thing can go and air them! And the same rule applies; if threads are invaded by fans then they too will receive a warning! This is so fans can avoid negative comments, and so ‘haters’ can avoid positive comments!

Paragraph 4 (126 words)

As members of the forum we understand karma is a real love/hate thing. Some people use the function correctly but there are many that don't. The last thing you want is your karma to be changed negatively. It just promotes cliques and popularity. So our next policy is to change the karma system.
If elected we will add a feature very much like on Facebook, where users can "Like" a post.
So if you feel you are a good poster with fair views, then members can "Like" your post which will be the overall decider of the karma.
Instead of giving karma to a person in general, you are giving it to their post, which in our eyes is a lot fairer way of doing things.

Hmm... again, the like/dislike post function is a new feature. I thought you were adapting your ideas?

We want to discourage negativity between members on the forum so its going to be encouraged to minus karma, and the emphasis is not on a new forum feature, but more the replication of a current feature and emphasis of the "plus" karma for each post
