Default Titanic 97 years on.

Quote:
On this day in history, April 10, 1912, the unsinkable RMS Titanic headed out for her maiden voyage, which was also her last.

The New York-bound Titanic sailed out with 2,240 passengers early in the afternoon from Southampton Harbour.

On April 14, 1912, the Titanic collidded with an ceberg which opened her starboard side to the sea. In the early hours of April 15, only two hours and 40 minutes after the impact, the Titanic sank to the bottom of the north Atlantic taking her place forever in the history books. That night, 1,517 people lost their lives in the greatest peacetime maritime accident in history.

The accident powerfully resounded throughout the world, while many films were shot based on these events.

The location of the wreck remained a mystery until September 1st 1985 when a team of explorers led by Dr Robert Ballard stumbled on the wreck after many years of searching.

Since that day countless artifacts and personnel items have been removed from the wreck site and shown around the world. Now the Titanic world is gearing up to celebrate the Titanic's 100th anniversary in 2012 with events already in the pipeline to celebrate this historic day.

Are they still planning on raising it? I think that'd be highly disrespectful.

I watched a documentary a while ago which was about plans to raise the ship. I don't follow the Titanic so I was just wondering if anything had gone through with it.

The Film is my favourite. I became obbsessed with Titanic for a few months earlier last year. I Love it (L)

To raise it would be silly, they should let it rest.

Obviously, but that won't stop them trying at least. They're probably aware of the breakthroughs if it was done successfully.

Belfast is doing its part for Titanic. I know here my first house is going to be

http://www.futurebelfast.co.uk/TitanicQuarter.htm

Following the thread though, Titanic should never be raised. Even so, what use would it be? Its a mass grave. Leave it be.

The wreck is to fragile to consider raising it. There have been many plans to but at the current time the technology does not exist to raise her.

However a large piece of the hull was raised from the wreck site in August 1998 and has been put on display many times before. this is the biggest piece of the Titanic that has been removed from the wreck site.

it weighs 20 tonnes and measures 25ft by 15ft. it has four port holes three of which contain the glass still in place.
