Default Has Lady Gaga taken it too far?

First off, I am a fan of Lady Gaga. I have been since April 08, way before her album was even released or touched the charts. It was amazing to see the success come her way because the music is awesome, but one of the things I always enjoyed about her was how unique she was. There wasn't anyone else like her, but now I'm finding it increasingly difficult to be a fan of hers because I feel like she's taking this image too far. Images like this:

Shock me. Please don't give me the "it's her unique style look" answer, because there's a huge difference between artistry and pretention and she really needs to learn that. Her interview/performance on Jonathan Ross really just sealed the deal for me as well. I now believe stunts like this are just her wanting more attention, when really its just driving more negative backlash her way. This is a reason I'm finding it difficult to be a fan of hers right now. I'll forever enjoy her music, but she as a person is changing and I don't like it.

Does anyone else have any opinions on this? I didn't post this in the Lady Gaga thread because I didn't want it to get unnoticed and I'm also interested in reading the opinions of members who aren't fans and wouldn't look in the thread anyway.

I don't really like her music, nor her - but - I don't really see an issue with the pictures. She's not really 'changing', she's been like this the whole time, she started in this industry when she was about 12 iirc.

Maybe I'm just less easy to shock, but to me those pictures look relatively normal in the world of celeb.

Exactly. We've seen way worse like Britney's pussy, Christina's pussy, Paris' pussy and many other pussies (pussies are fine but in private, it makes them look like sluts) or deluded outfits that are way more disgraceful than what Lady Gaga is wearing. She is not a slut AT ALL, she owns fashion at the moment and knows how to be talked about.
For once a singer doesn't take themselves too seriously, we should enjoy it. (I'm waiting for her pussy tho lol)

I'm not a fan of her music or the woman herself either, but I do take issue with her dressed like that under the banner of being original - there's being inventive, then there's plain mental. I'd imagine she's got a really huge ego at the moment, and nobody can blame her for that, but it shows (at least, that's how I view her, maybe she really just has no shame .)

I was also meant to state that it isn't just these pictures. These were the only example I could get this morning.

I understand about the celebrity thing, but Lady Gaga's style has been criticised for a while now with the press complaining she wears little. I think we all know her style is very different to the average persons and that's why I think it's been taken a little too far (when its becoming as pretentious as it is now).

I think she has changed alot. In my opinion she used to wear the extreme outfits because she wanted to and she loved fashion. Now, like in the pictures Mark posted, I do think she's trying to exploit her image and it has gone to far.
Its, weird though, I have actually recently started to become a fan of hers all over again.

Like I said in the other thread her interview with Jonathon Ross reminded me of this one on particular, although its 30 seconds long.

Basically I think shes too much sometimes to be like one of her idols. I can see exactly where your coming from though Mark.

I hated Lady GaGa... for like forever.
BUT, she was on Radio1 today with Jo Whiley... I still hate her. But I now admitt she is a very good singer. Her acoustic version of Poker Face was brilliant.
As for those pictures... I just say Ugh to them. LOL

I don't think so.
I'm not just being biased but on the 'art scene' where she is from she is in some sort 'normal'.

SHE IS the new Grace Jones.
In the 70's everyone though Grace Jones had took it all to far with the things she wears & creates.. but she is a legend and an icon.. same as GaGa.

I love Gaga!!!

She said today on Radio1.
That where she is from she had to hide her true identity. She was forced to tone it down because of what people said about her.
I think she does it for the attention now. She is famous so it seems okay to dress like that. When it is clearly not. It was artisitic, it is now just boring and OTT.

Yeah, there's art and there's just being plain skanky. You don't need to be walking the streets in certain outfits.

I don't have an issue with her in general, I just refuse to believe her style is based on art because lets be honest, she wears so little its hard to see what its based on. One of the things she's constantly criticised about is what she wears or wears little of, and I think she's taken it further now because she knows it's getting her a lot of attention.

Sorry, I meant her in nightclubs and her friends.

But yeah, people who lived round her thought she was crazy.

In her song "No Floods" -

"All the people say, there she goes that crazy girl. She thinks she's something in this world?"

Yeah. I agree with you, but I don't think in the form Gaga is doing it she is being skanky. I think she looks really fashionable and cool. She is just naturally like that.

I think it was Jonathans fault if I'm honest, she clearly didnt understand the concept of the show (which is a pisstake basic) and her management should have told her, aswell as the fact Jonathan was taking the piss out of people she liked and then he brung up the man thing which would be pretty hurtful.

People who are saying she isn't unique, clearly she is or there wouldn't be such a fuss being made - Her music may not be unique (but even then I dunno who she is like), but she as a person is certainly unique - And I'm not even a fan.

Her clothes are clearly based on art though you can tell from what she wears, like that post it note dress? It may be fugly but it's still artistic.

She isn't even taking anything futher she's been like this for a while, but as she appears on more tv shows and is seen more frequent it's appearing like it.

Yeah I was hesitant about using the word 'skanky' because I don't think she is, just some of the outfits she wears could be considered skanky by some. (tape on the breast lmao)

Well, her performance outfits clearly are and I'm sure she said she's designs some of them herself. I'm really talking about her general style and the clothes she's spotted in on the streets. Fair enough if she wore them in a music video, but is it really right to be walking around outside in some of them? I just think she's taking a bit far because she knows it gets her noticed.

I think some people are quite shocked to see a young, blonde, 23 years old, pop singer to behaving in a 'rock n roll lifestyle' usually the expect them to be old rock bands.. or Lindsay Lohan.
