Default \'Miracle\' diet pill goes on sale

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20090420/...e-dba1618.html

A diet pill which claims to flush out 25 per cent of the fat from food is being made available over the counter in Britain for the first time this week.

But slimmers hoping for a quick fix are being warned Alli (also known as orlistat) has side effects including diarrhoea.

And the pills aren't cheap either - a month's supply costs £49.95 while two weeks' supply will be sold at £32.95.

But its makers claim Alli can help dieters shed 50 per cent more fat than if they embarked on a healthy eating and exercise regime without it.

It works by absorbing about 25 per cent of the fat from food, thereby preventing it being turned into extra pounds by the body.

Tablets will be available to adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 28 or over, following a quick consultation with a pharmacist.

Makers GlaxoSmithKline said all pharmacists in the UK have been offered training to help them correctly identify a person's BMI and ask them suitable "fielding" questions regarding their motivation for taking the drug.

they should scrap that idea.

Because after a while some people will just get bigger, they will think its fine to eat what they want just because they have this pill, and they will just eat more and more.

People need to excersice and change diets not take pills. Lazy Britain.

People need to take responsibility for their own body and learn to eat healthy and exercise.

This pill is just going to talk people into being passive and expecting it to just happen. Bad bad decision to release it so publicly... anyone on it will end up losing weight but having bad organs, health, bones etc.

The problem with this wonder drug is that it will encourage people to try the quick fix without realising they have to follow a healthy eating plan while taking this medication or they will end up with some seriously unpleasant side effects, who wants to be unable to control their bowels!!

Ive tried a few diet pills in the past and tbh I can`t say wether its been the actual pill thats made me loose weight or the fact I followed a strict diet whilst I was taking them. However In both cases I found that when I stopped them I put the weight back on again.Saying that,Im still debating wether to try this one.
