Default Should I get a mac?

Okay, so at uni we use macs in the psych labs, so I'm used to them and now prefer them to windows.

I get a HE discount on macs, so a macbook would cost me £618. I wanna get microsoft office for mac for it, so that's a further ~£100.

If I get a sub from my grandad for £300, I can afford one, and I get £300 in October to pay him back.

My current laptop is on it's last legs, it's 3 years old. It's still running okay, though.

Should I get one? Or just stick with this?
(I am inevitably going to get a mac, I just need people to tell me to LOL).

If you prefer them then you should absolutely get one.

They are better than PCs.

If you can though, try and go for an aluminum model - they seem to be more durable.

I don't really do much with my laptop, furthest it goes is the library - and that's very rare. I think I prefer the look of the white plastic, even if it is tacky, hahaha.

I wish they still did the black plastic models. They were nice.

If you're used to the operating system, go for it. And if there's anything you miss about Windows, you can install it on your Mac!

I have white macbook and I love it. It so much faster than a windows machine and it doesn't get very hot like a lot of modern laptops.

I wouldn't bother with Microsoft office just download Open Office 3. You will only need Microsoft Office if you need to use Access. With Open Office 3 you read and write Word and Excel documents at it cost nothing but the time it takes to download it.

Also a macbook will back up a DVD into MP4 faster than you can watch the film.

My dad suggested open office. Does it use the same file formats, .doc and .ppt etc? I'm usually not picky, but I don't wanna find I have trouble with doing presentations for uni etc.

Also: it says that you can use up to 4gb RAM. It comes with 2 1gb 667mhz, how many RAM slots are there? To upgrade to 4gb, would I need 2 2gb RAMs?

Thanks for your help.

I despise macs, we use them for editing at college and i hate them with every fibre of my being. The ultimate case of style over substance they are so weird to use.

Whatever happened to accessability?
