Kylie Minogue’s great-uncle dies suddenly in hospital

THE great-uncle of superstars Kylie and Dannii Minogue has died suddenly in hospital.

The funeral of Dennis Riddiford, originally of Maesteg, takes place at Margam Crematorium tomorrow.

The 80-year-old passed away peacefully last Thursday at Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

Mr Riddiford, a retired carpenter, of Maesteg Road, Cymmer, was the brother of Kylie and Dannii’s grandmother Millie Jones, who moved to Queensland in 1955.

She was a “£10 Pom” – taking advantage of discounted fares under a scheme designed to attract skilled workers to Australia.

The pair’s mother, Carol Jones, was born in Maesteg, where the family ran the local post office.

The Jones family were among the estimated 710,000 Britons seeking a new life in Australia with the £10 ticket scheme.

Kylie’s mother was 12 years old when she emigrated to Australia with her mother, settling in Townsville, Queensland.

Carol, a former dancer, then met and married Ron Minogue, moving to Melbourne where she gave birth to daughters Kylie and Dannii and son Brendan, who works as a news cameraman in Australia.

She and her sister Dannii have visited their great-uncle and other Welsh relatives a number of times since they hit the big time.

Kylie reportedly once said she’d have been happy to have followed her family into running the post office if they hadn’t emigrated.

The pop princess has always been open about her ancestry and has often taken pride in her Welsh roots.

She once told the BBC presenter Jonathan Ross: “I was born in Melbourne but my roots will always be in Wales.”

When Kylie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, Mr Riddiford praised the way his great niece was dealing with the illness.

Speaking at the time, he praised the 38-year-old for fighting the disease and continuing to “look forward”.

He said: “She’s done marvellous – just fantastic.”

Mr Riddiford had kept in touch with some of the members of the family who had emigrated to Australia.

It is not known if the star or other members of her family in Australia will travel to Wales for the funeral.

Kylie Minogue’s publicist, Infinite PR, said the star would not comment on personal matters.

Australian pop diva Kylie Minogue is often voted as one of the most desirable women in the world and she admits that being desirable is a very intimate feeling.



The stunning 'Spinning Around' hitmaker soaked up the sun in Ibiza while posing in a black bodice and stockings for this sizzling shoot for the Spanish edition of Vogue magazine, News of the World reported.



However, despite looking hotter than ever at the age of 41, Kylie finds it strange that people think of her as one of music's most desirable stars.



"It's not something I think about, but it's welcome. When one feels really wanted, it's something so intimate," Kylie said.



The singer is currently working on her new album, which is tipped to be her best till date and also helped out on Simon Cowell's charity single for quake devastated Haiti.

Los Angeles: Popstar Kylie Minogue has been so busy working on her new album that she is not able to take out the time to socialise.

The `Spinning Around` hitmaker, who is dating model Andres Valencoso claims she is so busy with her recording commitments, she hasn`t had time to socialise for months, Absolute Now reported.

"I don`t have a life at the moment. I am basically in the studio all the time.

It`s work, work, work. It will all be worth it when my new album comes out - and I am just getting to the exciting bit.

But I really need to get out more," Minogue said. The 41-year-old singer`s album is slated for release this summer and will include tracks with British producer Taio Cruz who has even revised his signature sound so he can take the Australian singer in an entirely new direction.

Pop singer Kylie Minogue has reportedly denied new rumours suggesting that she is planning to get married soon.


According to Showbiz Spy, Minogue said that she is not engaged to her Spanish model boyfriend Andrés Velencoso.


The singer recently said: "I don't know where people get that information, but no, I'm not getting married."


"I guess that I will one day, but it's not in my immediate plans.

Kylie Minogue will host the first of three "Inspirational Galas", a series of events to take place in New York, Paris, and Los Angeles celebrating all elements of men's style and benefiting the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFAR), Towleroad has learned.

In New York, Jean Paul Gaultier will receive the 2010 “Inspiration Award” for his lifelong contribution to men’s fashion and the fight against AIDS.

Atelier, Band of Outsiders, Neil Barrett, Michael Bastian, Bess, Bottega Veneta, Thom Browne, Kenneth Cole, Tom Ford, Robert Geller, Tim Hamilton, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Ralph Lauren, Rick Owens, Y3, and Yves Saint Laurent have committed to present pieces for a runway show, which, for the inaugural set of galas, is themed "Black Tie/Black Leather".

Kylie to release new single in June

Kylie Minogue has revealed that her new single will be released within the next three months.

Responding to a message from a fan on Twitter - "So Kylie, got any news for us?! We need your holy presence on those charts soon " - the Aussie pop singer replied: "Single... JUNE !!!!!"

Minogue's eleventh studio album, and first since 2007's X, is also expected this summer. Songwriters and producers confirmed to have been working on the project include Scissor Sisters, Calvin Harris, Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley, Lady GaGa collaborator RedOne, Girls Aloud hitmakers Xenomania and forrmer Madonna producer Stuart Price.

The singer has notched up 31 UK top ten hits since making her chart debut in 1987, including seven number ones.

The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) has announced Kylie Minogue as host of its Inspiration Ball in June.

The Inspiration Gala, a new amfAR event series produced by Josh Wood Productions, is a celebration of men’s style that will benefit the Foundation’s innovative AIDS research programs.

The event will take place at the New York Public Library in Bryant Park on June 3, and will honor Jean Paul Gaultier. Chairs include Kenneth Cole and Alan Cumming.

Beginning in 2010 in New York, Paris, and Los Angeles, the Inspiration Gala series will grow to include events in multiple cities and will feature a different design “Inspiration” each year.

The design inspiration for 2010 is “Black Tie//Black Leather.” Each of the major designers who are participating will donate a piece inspired by the “Black Tie//Black Leather” theme to be presented in a runway show. The designers’ items will then be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting amfAR. The evening will also include a formal dinner with a special award presentation. Guests are encouraged to dress inspired by the theme.

Kylie Minogue's new album The Aphrodite will be see songs merge into each other, producer reveals

SONGS on Kylie Minogue's long-awaited new album will be mixed together to create one piece of music.

Producer Stuart Price is busy in his London studio getting The Aphrodite album ready for its July 5 release.

He told The Razz he wants to create a natural, continuous flow, rather than the usual series of individual songs, for Kylie's first album since her battle with cancer.

Stuart, who stitched songs together in a similar way for Madonna's Confessions on the Dancefloor album, got involved with Aphrodite last October when he met Kylie in New York for a writing session.

His work with the star is a "house party" record, he said, adding: "She's got that glint in her eye."

Some of the world's top songwriters were brought in but songs were only picked because of their quality.

France-born Stuart, who worked under pseudonyms such as Jacques Lu Cont and Les Rhythmes Digitales, revealed Kylie sang while directly facing him, rather than being locked away in a glass booth.

It meant they could try out songs and check if they withstood their odd but reliable "Dolly Parton" test.

Stuart and Kylie knew a song would work if it made sense when sung as Dolly would - and insiders say Kylie does a fab country version of All The Lovers.

Kylie's management confirmed: "She's an incredible mimic and does a mean Dolly Parton impression but she won't be releasing that version as a single officially."

Popjustice.com editor Peter Robinson was given a sneak preview.

He told the Razz yesterday: "Aphrodite is shaping up to be her best album since Light Years."

Peter, a Kylie fan club member since he was 10, reckons first single All The Lovers - out on June 26 - is "a bit like I Believe In You with a more danceable edge" and is "something of a masterpiece".

Kylie Minogue’s Goes Electro On New Single

Kylie Minogue’s new single sounds like a “Dolly Parton electro anthem”, Jake Shears has revealed.

The Scissor Sisters frontman has been working with the Australian singer on her latest album Aphrodite. Together with Calvin Harris, Jake has penned a track for Kylie called It’s Too Much, and has revealed he is also excited by the rest of her new material. He is convinced her latest offering will be hugely successful because it has a feel good vibe which makes you want to dance.

“I think it's one of the best records she's made,” Jake said in an interview with the BBC. “It's pure Kylie and the songs put a giant smile on your face. The lead single sounds like a pulsing Dolly Parton electro anthem. It's got a very anthemic, beautiful quality to it and it's very uplifting.

“And the last song is the gayest, most loved-up track that you could be off your face and fall in love with somebody on the dancefloor to. Instantly my hands go in the air when I hear it.”

Jake and his Scissor Sisters bandmates have also been working on their own new album Night Work. He admits the first time they entered the studio after releasing their hit LP Ta-Dah in 2006 “left him cold” and they ended up scrapping all the material. The group began writing new songs last summer and are much happier with what they have created. One track, Invisible Light, features Sir Ian McKellen reading a poem and Jake is particularly pleased they managed to get him involved.

“Somebody in the studio said, ‘We need a very deep British man's voice here.’ And I instantly thought of Ian,” Jake explained. “He's a fan and has come to lots of shows. I've hung out with him quite a bit.

“He was fully keen to do it so we took a bunch of recording equipment to his dressing room. I think he got a kick out of it.”
