Fourteen is a good number for launch night; and then once two or three housemates have been eliminated, putting another two housemates in isn't a bad idea, it freshens things up a bit.

14 is perfect, worked well in BB7 I thought, then maybe 3/4 more later on in the series if needs be.

I think 14 is good. 10 would leave us wanting more and 16 would be a little too many to register on the first night.

14. It enough so not too many new housemates will have to arrive during the series but its not too many so we can get used to them all in the first week
