Arctic Monkeys have started work on their fourth album with producer James Ford - and are hoping to release it later this year.

NME understands that the Sheffield four-piece started sessions at the end of 2010 in London, and are continuing work on it in Los Angeles.

Alex Turner and are reportedly hoping release the album in late spring at the earliest.

The new record will be the follow-up to their 2009 effort 'Humbug', which co-produced by Ford. His other production credits include the band's second album 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', Klaxons' 'Myths Of The Near Future' and work on Florence And The Machine's 'Lungs'.

The band are already confirmed to headline Ireland's Oxegen Festival in August

The Arctic Monkeys have revealed details about their upcoming fourth studio album.

The new album, titled Suck It and See, was produced by James Ford at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles and is due to go on sale June 6.

The announcement follows the surprise unveiling of a new track and video called 'Brick by Brick' last week.

The tracklisting for Suck It and See is as follows:

Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders has revealed that the band's new album will be more accessible than their previous LP.

The group have been in Los Angeles recording new album Suck It And See, which is due to be released June 6 in the UK.

"Some of the songs are a bit more instant," Helders told NME. "A bit more poppy, certainly, than Humbug was."

"It's enjoyable for us and the listener. And it's maybe a bit more easy going. Not easy listening, but with a few poppier tunes. But in an interesting way."

Elaborating further on how the group decided the direction in which to take their fourth studio album, he explained: "With Humbug we recorded 25 songs and narrowed it down afterwards. This time we had a clear idea of where we were going before we even went to the studio."

The band recently surprised fans by unveiling new track 'Brick By Brick' with its corresponding video online.

Arctic Monkeys have announced details of the lead single from their upcoming album Suck It And See.

'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair' will be available digitally on April 11. A 7" single backed by album track 'Brick By Brick' to mark Record Store Day will follow on April 16.

A second 7" vinyl featuring B-side 'I.D.S.T.' and 10" vinyl and digital bundle complete with the same track plus 'The Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap' will be released on May 30.

The band's drummer Matt Helders has claimed that Suck It And See is "more instant" and "more poppy" than predecessor Humbug.

Other Record Store Day 2011 releases include a double-sided single by Radiohead and a Foo Fighters covers album.
