Default 13th housemate - Unluckiest Ever

Quote:
Big Brother: Nowhere to hide for unlucky 13

BIG Brother has signed up 13 housemates for the new series - but the 13th will be the unluckiest ever. The house is even more claustrophobic than last year's with the inmates having nowhere to hide from each other.

A transparent wall separates the bedroom from the dining area and blinds can only be pulled down at Big Brother's discretion. The house in Elstree, Hertfordshire, has had a complete redesign since the end of Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year.

The living room, complete with shagpile carpet, is enclosed within a glass box, and can only be reached by crossing the garden. The only showers are outside in the garden area, meaning the contestants will have no privacy and will be totally exposed to the elements.

There are 11 beds - two double - in the bedroom, which has stark orange walls, polka-dot bed covers, mirrored walls, and a cream carpet.

The Diary Room door is made of large rectangular pieces of jagged glass.

The transparent dining table means there can be no repeat of last year - when Stuart and Michelle shared a steamy session in a makeshift love shack created under the dining table.

A loft, which can be reached from a ladder in the garden, is the only space where the housemates can enjoy a small amount of privacy from each other.

The clash of colours in the Big Brother house is enough to give the housemates a headache.

The exit door is gold, the carpet in the dining area is vivid blue and cream, and the walls are blue and pink. The panels on the kitchen cupboards are black and yellow.

Executive producer Sharon Powers said: "Last year Big Brother was evil.

"It will continue to be evil this year. But one of the big things that will be interesting this year is that there are going to be 13 housemates.

"And boy you don't want to be that 13th housemate. They are going to have the unluckiest time of their lives.

"The unluckiest housemate will enter on launch night and viewers will find out which one of the housemates they are in the first week."

She added: "The house will feel more claustrophobic then it was last year because all the internal walls are totally transparent.

"From the dining table area you can see into the bedroom, and from the garden you can see the living room.

"This time, more than any previous year, there is nowhere to hide.

"The designer's brief was to create a house that feels sumptuous to the viewers but uncomfortable to those living there."

Contestants ejected from the house will have a lonely walk from the glass box living area to the baying crowds outside.

The outside pool can be turned hot or cold according to the whim of producers.

Big Brother creative director Phil Edgar-Jones said: "The house looks quite nice but it will be hell to live in. It's tiny and everything is transparent. You can never hide from your fellow housemates or Big Brother.

"It's an environment where you have to interact with each other. We can hear or see you all the time."

Wow! So there are definitely 13 housemates then. In the Daily Express today it says there are 9 single beds and 2 double beds.

Interestingly, the duvet covers have big spots on them, which could look like the "sun".

Transparent house for Big Brother

A transparent house will greet contestants on the sixth series of hit reality show Big Brother.
Channel 4 hopes the house will feel more "claustrophobic" than previous years because contestants will have nowhere to hide from each other.

It features transparent walls, outside showers and a transparent dining table.

The sixth series, which starts on Friday, will have 13 contestants - with producers promising a tough time for the "unlucky" 13th person.

Executive producer Sharon Powers said the designer was asked to create a house that feels sumptuous to viewers but uncomfortable to those living there.

"From the dining table area you can see into the bedroom, and from the garden you can see the living room.

"This time, more than any previous year, there is nowhere to hide."

Only producers will be able to control the heat of the outside pool and raise or lower the blinds separating the bedroom from the dining area.

The house also features a gold-coloured exit door, a vivid blue and cream carpet in the dining area, blue and pink walls and black and yellow kitchen cupboards.

Housemates will be able to see the bedroom from the dining area
Ms Powers said the real evil streak would be reserved for the 13th contestant.

"One of the big things that will be interesting this year is that there are going to be 13 housemates," she said.

"And boy you don't want to be that 13th housemate. They are going to have the unluckiest time of their lives."

Meanwhile, a rival broadcaster is launching a "public spirited" attack on reality TV by offering ÂŁ70,000 to Big Brother contestants if they refuse to speak during the 11-week series.

Satellite network UKTV said its prize was an attempt to "diminish the amount of mindless drivel generated by the deluge of reality TV shows".

A COMPLETE rejig of this year's Big Brother house is sure to give the 13 new housemates a headache.
If the specially chosen colours aren't enough to upset the contestants, the claustrophobic atmosphere is sure to tip them over the edge.
The house, in Elstree, Hertfordshire, also has transparent walls separating the bedroom from the dining area and the only showers are outside in the garden.
The theme of this year's new series is "bad luck" and housemate 13 will face some misfortune early on.
Big Brother 6 starts its 11-week run on Friday at 9pm.

This is getting more interesting by the minute...poor HM...wonder if the 13th HM is the one that's chosen from the fake team of HMs? That's if that's going ahead...does anyone know if that rumour's likely to be true?

Here's the full interview with Sharon Powers and Angela Jain...............

Executive Producer, SHARON POWERS and Commissioning Editor, ANGELA JAIN talk about what viewers can expect this year.

The open auditions…..
S.P - The auditions went amazingly well. We were thrilled with the huge turn out, which signals that the interest in Big Brother is as strong as ever.

A.J - You never know what you are looking for because it’s as much about the individuals as it is the mix of housemates. There is no science to finding the right housemates, but instinctively when someone good comes along it’s easy to see why they should be in the house.

S.P – Generally the best people at auditions stand out, not because they’ve turned up in outrageous outfits, but because they had something to say for themselves. However, we saw some outrageous sights along the way including a Scotsman wearing nothing but a ginger wig and a kilt and lots of girls leaving very little to the imagination.

Big Brother series six…..
S.P – It is the sixth series so more than ever Big Brother has to stay one step ahead of the housemates and the viewers. There will be lots of new surprises in store and the house has been totally redesigned so that this series will feel distinctive from the off.

A.J – As always casting is key to Big Brother because each new housemate brings their own unique element of fun and entertainment to the show and that’s why every series is different from the one before.

The new house…..
S.P - The house has been totally redesigned, but it’s still as small as BB5 even though the feel of it will be completely different. We want it to look aspirational and sumptuous to the viewers, but for the housemates it will soon prove to be uncomfortable and claustrophobic.

A.J - To viewers the house will look like the kind of place you’d love to live in, but to the housemates the things they initially liked about it will become the things they find the most oppressive. The house will feel very different to any previous house and more than ever this year there really is nowhere to hide.

The new housemates…..
S.P - There is no â€identikit’ housemate that we set out to find. When someone has that something extra, whatever that might be, they genuinely stand out from the thousands of applicants. The audition process comprises of many stages over a few months, which allows us to get to know potential housemates as much as we possibly can. Ultimately we try to choose people who have what it takes to entertain the public all summer.

A.J – It’s a very rigorous process getting through the Big Brother auditions and they are just a small indication of the pressure the housemates will be under when they walk into the Big Brother house.

Romance……
S.P - It’s always wonderful to watch a Big Brother romance unfold, but as Cilla Black knows it’s not something that you can necessarily engineer or guarantee. Romance is organic and comes from the housemates rather than Big Brother.

A.J - In such a pressured environment it amazes me that any romance can blossom. So it’s always a surprise when, as in previous series, romances do happen. We can never predict it.

The weekly tasks…..
S.P - The weekly tasks are a key feature of Big Brother and this series will be no different. The housemates will be set tasks to determine their weekly food budget, but Big Brother will also throw lots of other challenges at them along the way that will impact on life in the house.

A.J – Ultimately tasks are designed to put the housemates in situations where they reveal a little bit more about their true characters, so that viewers can get to know them better.

Planning ahead…..
S.P – Even though there’s been months of advanced preparation with regard to ideas, tasks and twists, one of the wonderful things about Big Brother is its unpredictability. With all the preparation in the world it is key that we allow ourselves room to respond to storylines and events as they unfold.

A.J - Until the housemates go in we never really know what will happen. Of course we have thought long and hard about what we would like to happen in the house, but as situations and stories unfold, the challenge for us is the ability to change things at a moment’s notice.

Favourite on-screen moments…..
S.P - It was a wonderful moment when Nadia won BB5 because it showed how the nation had supported her and embraced her emotional journey. Personally one of my favourite moments from last year was when Ahmed staged a military coup and told Big Brother he was “not a sandwich”. Others that spring to mind are Alex and Jonny having a row over people weeing in the shower in BB3 and of course Jade asking “am I a minger?”

A.J – From BB3 – Alex behind the bathroom door with “That’s the way I like it” playing out. Also Alison and Kate jumping up and down on the garden table and Alison then breaking it and collapsing to the floor. From last year, Nadia showering with her heels on, and in the very first week with Kitten challenging Big Brother and Big Brother showing no mercy by displaying the prize money going down which prompted the housemates to tell her to “get out”.

And behind the scenes….
S.P - There was a great moment on the launch night last year. We [the production team] were watching in the gallery and had seen Marco’s excitement at being first in the house and squealing because there was a toaster, followed by Kitten’s infamous entrance. What we all knew was that Jason was waiting in a limo, yet to arrive dressed in nothing but a leopard-skin thong.

The beauty of Big Brother….
S.P - The thing I’m looking forward to the most now is seeing how the individuals we’ve spent months choosing interact together as a group. Despite the intense audition process no one can really predict how they will get on living together.

A.J - Like anybody I have my favourite housemates, but as the series unfolds your opinions naturally change. The excitement is finding a reason to love the housemate you thought you were going to loathe and vice versa. But it’s what the viewers think of them that counts and we never know who the nation will take to.

I like the idea of voting for the housemate to be the "unlucky" one! Now there's an idea! I'm not sure how they'll play this one but the idea of voting for someone each week would be a good idea.

hmmm if this is true the unluckiest housemate will actually become the luckiest really in having an advantage over the other housemates because......... the public will want that person to stay in the house to see them suffer and the sympathy vote may win the series you never know.

(My first post in ages. it's good to be back!!)

Hi chickenthing ...... great to see you again!

I think your theory could well be right ......... the public love to back the underdog and if one of the housemates DOES get picked on, then that'll just make them vote for them even more!

Not long now until we find out!
